Wallace meets with most of the Celtics

Rasheed Wallace

Rasheed Wallace

A couple of day ago I talked about the two Tar Heels that are unrestricted free agents. From what I have heard on ESPN (Mike & Mike in the Morning, via of Chris Boussard) and this article from Philly.com it sounds like Boston is very interested in Wallace. From the sounds of it, Boston is pulling out all the stops to get the 34 year old to Bean Town, and why not, as I said in my previous post about the ex big man from Chapel Hill, he is going to be a great addition to a team that needs a good player, but is not looking for one that will carry the team. Take some minutes off of his games and add the talent that the Celtics have and I would say Sheed could be in a very nice situation next season.

The above stated article is saying that Dean Smith’s pupil at North Carolina was offered a two year contract at the midlevel exception ($5.6 million per year), and to that I have to say: “why didn’t he sign there and then?” The ex Piston met with Celtics ownership, head coach Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen yesterday in Detroit. That to me means that the Boston team want him really bad. I mean one out of the three players would have been enough, all three seems to be more of a plead that a negotiation, one that if Wallace was to accept would get the Celtics right back to the NBA Title. I am not sure how else to say this, but close to six millions, possibility to win one (or two) championships in what is probably is Wallace’s last contract.

After fourteen years in the league I still baffled why the big man didn’t take the deal, which would pay him well (I believe he wanted $ 8 million a year, and getting close to $ 6 isn’t bad), and give you a chance to get another ring (or two) and Wallace didn’t take it. Unless Wallace thinks that either the Cavaliers or the Lakers are going to come calling with the same amount of money, thing I don’t see happening, leaving the meeting with all of the Celtics without signing was not the smart move in my opinion. I guess now I have to wonder if there is something behind the scene, but again, how much more could the ex Tar Heel get from a team that has a chance to win it all? My answer is none! Hopefully the next time I write about Rasheed Wallace it will be to say that he has signed with the C’s and will be heading to Boston!

As I do all the time, I wish all the best to Wallace as he works out what is probably going to be his final contract in the Association.
