From the Orlando Sentinel’s web site there is a small story on Vince Carter’s injury. This is the second time that the shooting guard sprained his ankle this season, from what I read it happened as Carter drove to the basket in Saturday night’s game and stepped on an opponent’s foot. The good news is that it seems the Tar Heel says the injury isn’t serious and will play against the Indiana Pacers tonight. Carter, who is officially listed by the Magic as “day-to-day”, said this to the media:
“I’m gonna play,” Carter said. “I’m not one for missing games. I’m going to go out there and do everything I need to do. But I’ll be able to play. The good thing about it is I don’t swell.”
When asked if he was worried that coming back too soon could be a mistake:
“I don’t think that way,” he responded. “I just go play, and if it happens, it happens. As you can see, it can happen at any given time.”
I would say that the best person to evaluate whether or not he/she can come back and when is the one that has the injury. I do worry that coming back soon, especially with those type of injuries that can happen at anytime, could be a mistake. I say that because I am sure that for the Magic, who are third in the Eastern Conference (1.5 games behind conference leading Cleveland), Carter’s presence is a lot more important come playoff time and not for games that for better or worst are somewhat meaningless. I hope that the coaching staff keeps a close eye on him and plays him as much as needed and not a minute more.
As I do with all the Tar Heels let me wish Vince Carter a speedy recovery!
