In something that hits close to home, so I hope as many people as possible participate, the Diamond Heels have announced the date for the 2010 UNC BaseBald for the Cure, and it will be held after the April 11 game, when Carolina will host N.C. State at Boshamer Stadium. Organized by the bullpen catcher for UNC, Chase Jones, for each $ 100 donation one of the players will shave his head, with the all the money raised going to Linberger Center and Children’s Hospital. From the official site it says that there are 35 players, meaning that up to $ 3,500 could be raised, but it also hints that if all the players are shaved the attention will go to the coaches and trying to get them to shave their heads as well. Check out the link above to see how you can donate to this event or you can call the Carolina Baseball office at (919) 962-2351.
I have to say, with a wife having gone through the fight of her life against leukemia, I hope that they find the people to get everyone shaved (including the coaching staff), and selfishly wish that all the football players were doing this as well (as well as all the male athletes at Carolina) just so that more money can be raised to fight this evil/cruel disease. All I can say is this: thanks head coach Mike Fox and all of your staff and players for doing this. And while I am not in the business of telling what people what to do on this site, if you can not afford the one hundred dollars here is an idea: get together with others that also can’t afford that number.
