UNC ranked amongst the best this season

UNCBBAfter many others have weighed in on where North Carolina should be ranked in the pre season it’s Slam Online that has the latest ranking. They see the Tar Heels being sixth in the nation, with the following phrase underneath the title: “Roy Williams and Co. don’t rebuild, they reload”. For someone that has followed UNC (and college as a whole) I believe that the above quoted phrase is spot on. But do not take my word for it, just check the roster on the official site, and you can see what type of team will be playing in Chapel Hill. Add to the mix that four of their starters are gone and you can see why Carolina does not rebuild, they reload.

Head Coach Roy Williams

Head Coach Roy Williams

This turnaround has come from the fact that Roy Williams decided to come back to his alma mater, and because of that North Carolina has won two national titles in five years. All of this evolution starting just a few years after the Tar Heels had their worst season (going 8-20). From the web site Rush the Court has Carolina has the team of the `00′s. They too saying “Maybe we should just call it the Decade of Roy Williams”. So many compliments, so many great achievements, so many things that make any fan want to feel like saying “we are the best”.

100 Yrs Celebration LogoWhy do I say all of this? Because we have a lot of talent this season, one that could be filled with a lot of great things, but also we some “so-so” things. When those “so-so” things do happen, remember what type of teams we have had at Chapel Hill and what kind of head coach we have. Because a program is never going to be judged by a season, it is going to be judged by all of his years and sometimes by a decade of work, and if you do that then you will see how well North Carolina has done, both in the long run and in this decade.
