Tourney of Champs
Inspired by the great job that was done over at scACCHoops and by the fact I had begun this last year and then due to family issues had to stop it I am going to redo the “UNC Tourney of Champs”. Once again it will be a round robin, but unlike the first time around the teams will meet four times (2 at home and 2 on the road). Another big difference is that I am going to cut it down from eight to six teams, with the four national championship squads (`82, `93, `05 & `09) plus one from the Bill Guthridge seasons (`98) and one from the Matt Doherty years (`01). In all that will give the tournament plenty of talent and lots to talk about when the results come in. I will do one game (which means the best of five game simulations) everyday. Once the games are all played, the top two teams will get the first round off while the other four squads will square off in order to move forward. Oh, do I have a favorite? Of course, the 1981-82 team! In doing this I am going to use the WhatIfSports web site, and will post the play by play of each games, along with the league leaders after each week of play. It should be fun, it should be some work, but most of all it should be a way to make this summer go by just a bit quicker!
When will all of this start? Today of course. Games will be played in the morning and the post will be up by about 2:00 pm EST on the site…
Games for this week:
- Wednesday: 1982 vs. 1998
- Thursday: 2005 vs 1993
- Friday: 2009 vs 2001
(the following weeks games will be played Mon/Wed/Fri ~ yes I am taking the weekends off from this!)
