Welcome to the first edition of “Top of the Hill”, a blog (which I hope to be as close to daily as possible) where I look into the top players/teams/or whatever else that in some way are connected to North Carolina. Today we begin with the top 2010 football players in the state of North Carolina and see which college is looking at them and what the three recruiting sites are saying about them. Some have already committed, some have UNC as one of their team and some have no school listed yet. Overall, I am going to give you the run down, then you guys/gals make up your mind. There are ten players right now that are three (or more) stars recruits. In this post I am going to give you three of them, and then do two more posts about the rest of the players in the state.

The first player is Robert Crisp, a 6’7″/302 lbs offensive tackle from Chapel Hill HS. And believe it or not, the young man is headed to North Carolina State and not UNC. The young man is listed by both Rivals and Scout as a four star recruit, while ESPN has him as a Top 150 player. Rivals and Scout have him as a Top 5 player at his position. North Carolina St. was one of 14 teams (8 from the ACC) to go after Crisp. Of those 14 teams twelve of them had offered a Letter of Intent to the young man to play for them.

The second one I found is a corner back, who comes in at 5’10″/170 lbs, and his name is Victor Hampton, who comes from Independence HS out of Charlotte. He is a four star recruit for both the Rivals web page as well as the Scout one. ESPN gives the young man a vote of 78 (meaning a good prospect). Hampton is ranked seventh overal from Scout and fourth by Rivals. Florida beat out other six teams, including NC State, Clemson and North Carolina in the ACC, for his services.

The third player on this list is defensive end Gabe King, 6’5″/251 lbs, who is from Northern Guildford, in Greensboro. The young man is ranked 8th at his position on Scout and 5th on Rivals, while on ESPN King is mentioned as a Top 150 recruit. Gabe King hasn’t yet decided where he will spend his time in college, but the list of school is huge. The defensive end has 17 teams listed, of those all of them have offered an LOI to him. From those teams five (Clemson, Duke, NC State, Maryland and UNC) are from the Atlantic Coast Conference, as well as a couple of heavy hitters such as Georgia, Tennessee and West Virginia. East Carolina is also on King’s list.

I want to land Gabe King. He is a stud.

From all I read of King I would have to say he is definitely a stud. RIght now, with 17 schools in the mix it’s going to be a while before he says which school is in the lead and then which school he picks. Should be interesting though, with five teams from the ACC, if he lands at Chapel Hill or is a foe of the program.
