Now that the season is well underway and the stats are real (and not inflated by one great game) I am going to start giving checking on the statistics, using the The Sporting News web site, and will see if there are Tar Heels amongst the leaders of them. Check back today as I will be checking the second return of the All-Star balloting, where some of Heels are in the running there as well. Back to the work on hand, make sure to make The Fifth Corner a weekly stop on Saturday to see if any of the Carolina players are among the top players in the National Basketball Association.
For points per game, where the leader is at 30.6, the only Heel in the Top 20 is Antawn Jamison of the Washington Wizards (#17), who is averaging 20.4 ppg. In the category of rebounds per game, with the leader being at 13.2, we find Jamison’s team mate, Brendan Haywood (Washington Wizards), coming in at the 12th spot, averaging 10.5 rpg. Next, assists per game, where the leader is at 11.4, we have Raymond Felton (Charlotte Bobcats), coming in at the 20th slot with an average of 5.2 apg. The fourth category is blocks per game, with the leader coming in at 2.5, we once again have Brendan Haywood (Washington Wizards), who is tied for second at 2.3 bpg. And the last one, steals per game, where the leader is at 2.7, we once again have a repeat Heel, as Raymond Felton (Charlotte Bobcats) is tied for fifth, with 2.0 spg.
