The weekend brought another challenge for head coach Anson Dorrance and his team, as top ranked North Carolina (9-0-1, 2-0 in ACC) faced #7 Wake Forest (8-2, 0-1 in ACC) at Fetzer Field. When it was all said and done the Tar Heels took care of the Demon Deacons by the final score of 4-0. The score alone shows the domination of the Lady Heels, but when you figure that senior striker Nikki Washington is out for the season with a knee injury, while senior middi Tobin Heath and senior keeper Ashlyn Harris training this week with the U.S. National Team, you can see just how much the game was lopsided.
The Heels began their attack soon into the game, as the fist opportunity came with less than 2 minutes gone in the game, when junior striker Jessica McDonald hit a shot at point blank, but somehow the Wake Forest goalkeeper was able to deflect out. But that was just the beginning for the squad, as two minutes later they took the lead to keep. Off of a corner freshman defenseman Amber Brooks headed the ball into the net from the far post. For the rest of the game it was all Carolina all the time, with the Deacs getting basicaly just a few chances to score, their best one coming after half hour of playing. Carolina will now go on the road for the next two games. Fortunately both Heath and Harris will return to the squad as UNC faces No. 6-ranked Boston College Thursday at 7 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Carolina will also meet Virginia Tech (8-2, ACC 2-0) next Sunday at 5 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va.
