After another night, the third of the season, with the National Basketball Association having games it’s once again for “The Fifth Corner” to do its recap for the night in the daily post that is called “Heels in the Pros” (NBA) for 12/27/11. In all there were five match ups on the professional hardwoods of which three had teams with a touch of carolina blue on their roster, one of the with two former players from Chapel Hill, while three of the four former Tar Heels are all national champions. So, without further ado, let’s get it going with this edition of “Heels in the Pros” (NBA) for December 27, 2011…

The first game of the night has the season opener for the Atlanta Hawks, which travels north to the Garden State to take on the New Jersey Nets. The game was played at the Prudential Center in front of a crowd of 18,711. For the visiting team it’s a pair of ex Tar Heels, with the first one being Marvin Williams, starting at small forward and getting 22 minutes in all. The seventh year pro scored 14 points (3 for 9 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 6 for 7) to go with nine rebounds, three assists, a pair of steals and a turnover while having a +14 points differential. For the team coming off the bench it’s old time Jerry Stackhouse, in his 17th year in the pros, who played just six minutes, scoring no points (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with one board, one assist and a point differential of +3. As far as the game went it was all Atlanta in this one, defeating New Jersey by 36 points, with the final tally being 106 to 70, or as Bret Lagree of Hoopinion put it Atlanta Hawks Blow Out New Jersey Nets.

The next game of the night is the one between Minnesota Timberwolves and the Milwaukee Bucks, in a game played in front of 17,352 at the Bradley Center. For the visiting team we have third year man Wayne Ellington, who once again does not see any action at the guard position for his squad. And for the second game in a row the shooting guard watches his team go down, as Milwaukee defeated Minnesota by the final of 98 to 95.

Finally, the last game of the night has the Portland Trail Blazers hosting the Sacramento Kings at the Rose Garden in front of a crowd that numbered 20,350. For the home squad we have seventh year veteran Raymond Felton, who started and played a total of 26 minutes. In that time the point guard scored five points (2 for 8 ~ 1 for 3 ~ 0 for 1) to go with six assists, two steals, a rebound and a pair of TOs while having a +9 pts differential in the game. As far as the game was concerned it was Portland (2-0, 2-0 at home) defeating Sacramento (1-1, 0-1 on the road) by the score of 101 to 79, thanks in great part to Gerald Wallace from what Andrew R. Tonry from the Portland Roundball Society says.

After a small schedule on Monday, with just three games with none having former Tar Heels in it, it is time to check out the games from yesterday in the National Basketball Association, as seven games were on the slate (one cancelled by the weather) and all but one had a touch of Carolina blue in it. So, without further ado, let’s get right into this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for 01/11/11 and see how our beloved Tar Heels did with their professional teams…

First game of the night has the Indiana Pacers (EC ~ 2nd Central) heading to the city of brotherly love to take on the Philadelphia 76′ers (EC ~ 3rd Atlantic). The game was played at the Wells Fargo Center in front of a crowd that numbered 10,890. For the away squad we have ex national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough, who starts for the Pacers and plays 25 minutes. In that time the power forward scores 12 points (6-11 ~ 0-0 ~ 0-0) to go with nine rebounds, two assists, a steal and three turnovers while registering a -14 pts differential on the night. As far as the game went it was Indiana taking this one by the score of 111 to 103. The win puts the Pacers at 15 and 20 on the season, 13 games behind the conference leader and one ahead of the eighth seed squad.

The second game of the night has the Minnesota Timberwolves (WC ~ 5th NorthWest) hosting the San Antonio Spurs (WC ~ 1st SouthWest) at the Target Center in front of 11,209 fans. For the home squad we should see shooting guard Wayne Ellington, however, once again the ex national champion under head coach Roy Williams is kept out of the game (DNP – Coach’s Decision). In the end this game went to the Spurs, winning it by double digits, with the final tally being 107 to 96. The loss drops the TWolves to 9 and 30 on the year, 23.5 games behind conference leader San Antonio and 11 games behind eighth seed Portland. (To be noted: Minnesota racked up an amazing five technicals in 10 seconds in this game).

The third match up of the night with a touch of Carolina blue is the one with the Denver Nuggets (WC ~ 3rd NorthWest) hosting the Phoenix Suns (WC ~ 2nd Pacific) in front of 14,874 at the Pepsi Center. For the home squad we have speedster Ty Lawson, who comes off the bench and plays 24 minutes until he fouls out of the game. In that time frame the point guard scores 16 points (4-5 ~ 1-1 ~ 7-8) to go with six rebounds, five assists, a steal and (yikes) four TOs while having a pts differential of +28 in the game. As far as the game went it was Denver winning it by 34 points, 132 to 98, after being down 20 to 32 at the end of the first quarter. The win lifts the Nuggets to a 21 and 16 record on the season, 10.5 games behind the conference leader and two games behind the 8th seed in the West.

The second to last game of this post has the New York Knicks (EC ~ 2nd Atlantic) headed to the Rose Garden to take on the Portland Trail Blazers (WC ~ 4th NorthWest) in front of 20,604 fans. For the team from the east coast it’s point guard Raymond Felton, who starts and gets 40 minutes in all. In that time the speedy ex national champ records a double double by scoring 17 points (7-16 ~ 2-5 ~ 1-2) and having 14 assists, while adding three steals and two rebounds and ending the game with a pts differential of +15. And all of this while rolling his ankle. As far as the game is concerned it was New York taking it by double digits, with the final tally being 100 to 86. The win places the Knicks with a 22 and 15 record for the season, seven games back of the conference leader and six games ahead of the seventh seed. (To be noted: The Knicks are 12 and 8 on the road, showing they are just as good when traveling as they are when playing at home).

And we end this recap with what has to be one of the worst performances by any team in a long time as the Cleveland Cavaliers (EC ~ 5th Central) headed west to take on the Los Angeles Lakers (WC ~ 1st Pacific). The game was played at the Staples Center in front of 18,997 fans. For the visiting team it was power forward Antawn Jamison, who started for the Cavs and played a total of 31 minutes. In that time frame the ex national player of the year recorded six points (3-10 ~ 0-3 ~ 0-0) to go along with eight rebounds (5 offensive), three assists, two steals and three TOs while having an absurd -46 pts differential. The game was a disaster and the final score might not make it justice as LA won this by the final of 112 to 57 (one bucket from doubling up Cleveland). The loss drops the Cavs to 8 and 30, the worst record in the NBA, 21.5 games from the conference leader and 7.5 games back from the eighth seed in the East.

After a long absence I am once again back at it with one of my favorite things to do on my blog, the daily recaps from around the pro leagues regarding former Tar Heels, which I call “Heels in the League” (NBA). In this edition will check out the games from Sunday, January 9, 2011, where several UNC players were in action in the National Basketball Association, more precisely, there were six out of seven games with a touch of Carolina Blue in them. So, sit back and relax as we check out this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA)…

The first game of the night feature the Sacramento Kings (WC ~ 5th Pacific) going north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors (EC ~ 4th Atlantic) at the Air Canada Centre in front of a crowd that numbered 17,026. This is the second and last time these two franchises will meet up in the regular season, the first match up going to the Kings. For the home squad we have former Carolina power forward Ed Davis, who came off the bench and played for fifteen minutes in all. In that time the 6’10 Davis scored two points (0-1 ~ 0-0 ~ 2-2) to go with two rebounds, two assists three steals and an assist while having a +/- differential of -1 in the game. As far as the game went it was the Canadian squad taking this one by a half dozen, with the final tally being 118 to 112. With the victory the Raptors are now 13 and 24 overall and 15.5 games back of division leading Celtics and 16 games behind Conference leader Miami but only a pair of games behind the last playoff team.

The second game with a touch of Carolina Blue is one between two teams from the state of California and in the same conference as the Golden State Warriors (WC ~ 3rd Pacific) head to the Staples Center to take on the Los Angeles Clippers (WC ~ 4th Pacific) in front of 17,696 fans. This is the second time (of four) that these two teams will meed this season, the first game having gone to the Warriors. For the road team it’s second year pro Brandan Wright, who comes off the bench for nine minutes in this game. The former pupil of Roy Williams scored six points (3-3 ~ 0-0 ~ 0-0), while adding a pair of rebounds and a block and finishing with a -5 points differential. In the end it was the Clippers taking this one by double digits, putting down the Warriors by the final of 105 to 91. With the loss Golden State is now 15 and 22 and 18.5 games behind conference leader San Antonio and just two back from 8th seed Portland.

In the third match up of the night it’s the Minnesota Timberwolves (WC ~ 5th NorthWest) versus the San Antonio Spurs (WC ~ 1st SouthWest). The game was played in front of an attendance of 18,851 at the AT&T Center. For the T’Wolves it should be shooting guard Wayne Ellington, but he does not play (coach’s decision) in this one. The ex national champion under head coach Roy Williams is playing about 15.5 minutes per game this season, scoring just above five points per game while hitting on close to 38% of his three pointers. This is the fourth game in a row that the 6’4″ guard does not see any playing time and you have to wonder why! As far as the game went it was the Spurs winning it in a close one as the defeated the Timberwolves 94 to 91. With the loss Minnesota is now 9 and 29 for the year and trails the conference leader by 22.5 games and the last playoff team by 11 games.

Another game and another one with a touch of Carolina Blue in it. This time we have the Cleveland Cavaliers (EC ~ 5th Central) heading south to play against the Phoenix Suns (WC ~ 2nd Pacific) at the US Airways Center in front of a crowd that numbered 17,031. For the traveling squad it’s veteran Antawn Jamison, who stars for the Cavs and plays a team high 41 minutes in this one. In that time frame the power forward scores 23 points (9-23 ~ 1-7 ~ 4-4) to go with seven boards, three steals, two assists and a pair of TOs while having a -10 points differential. As far as the games goes it was Suns pulling away in the last quarter after the two teams were tied beginning the last frame, with the final tally being 108 to 100. The loss drops the Cavs to a record of 8 and 29 on the year, last in the East, 21 games behind Miami and 14 games behind 8th seed Philly.

And we close this post with a East vs West game as the New York Knicks (EC ~ 2nd Atlantic) host the Los Angeles Lakers (WC ~ 1st Pacific) at the Mecca of Basketball, Madison Square Garden, where 18,997 were in attendance for the game. For the home squad we have former Heel point guard Raymond Felton, who is the starting guard for the Knicks and in this one played 36 minutes in all. In that time the ex national champion at Chapel Hill scored a dozen points (4-14 ~ 2-6 ~ 2-2) while getting eight rebounds, two steals, a pair of assists and having a pts differential of -19. In the end this was all about the Lakers, who won the contest by the final of 109 to 87. The loss drops New York to 21 and 15 on the season, putting them sixth in the conference, 7.5 games back of the conference leader and 6 ahead of the seventh seed.

While I am at it, just a reminder that I am trying to get a least one blogger from each of the teams that have UNC players on them before the beginning of the season. If you know any of them please leave me a comment at the end of this post. Now, without further ado, let’s get it going with this post about the “Heels in the League (NBA)” for 10/06/10…

In the first game of the night we find the head to head match up as the New York Knicks head to the Bercy Arena (France) to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. For the team from the Big Apple it is point guard Raymond Felton, a three year player at UNC as well as a national champ, who starts and plays for 29 minutes in this one. In the time frame the floor general scores just four points (1 for 6 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 2 for 2) to go with four rebounds, four assists, a steal, a way too high five turnovers and a pts differential of -4. On the other side, another three year player and national champion in Chapel Hill, shooting guard Wayne Ellington, who came off the bench for 13 minutes. In that time frame, which was a lot less than his first game, the second year player only scored a point (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 1 for 2) to go along with two boards, an assist, a TO and a 0 as far as pts differential was concerned. In the end it was Minnesota winning this one, taking down New York by a half dozen, with the final score being 106 to 100. With the win the TWolves are 2 and 0 in the pre-season, while the Knicks fall to 1 and 1.

Moving along to game number two it’s the one between the Indiana Pacers and the Memphis Grizzlies, played at the FedEx Forum, with a small attendance of 8,618. For the visiting squad from Indy we would see Tyler Hansbrough, a four year man under Roy Williams at Chapel Hill as well as NPOY and national champion, who however did not play in this game. Many reports are saying that the 6’9″ big man from Poplar Bluff, Missouri should be ok for the season after having had an ear infection and vertigo in his rookie season, so this should just be a preventive measure to get him going slowly back into the season. As far as the game was concerned it went down to the wire with Memphis winning by a duece, defeating Indiana 97 to 85.

And we close out with another Tar Heel that did not see the field, one and done Ed Davis, as his Toronto Raptors played the Phoenix Suns at the General Motor Place in Vancouver. And while the big man from Chapel Hill was not in action (out for about another month with the right knee injury) both teams played under the eyes of 18,123 fans. As far as the game went this one was a landslide for the team from north of the border as Toronto defeated Phoenix by 31 points, with the final being 129 to 78. For the Raptors it’s their first game of the pre-season and if they keep it up they might just be forgetting about the big man a lot sooner than anticipated.

Unlike the first game, where the Knicks took on a team from the Italian premier league, this one has two National Basketball Association squads going head to head even if the game was played in London, England. For those that are craving more than just one game a day do not worry, starting tonight there will be plenty more (twentyone in the next three days). Yes, believe it or not, with baseball going into the playoffs, the NFL and college football not too long into their seasons, it’s time to get back to watching the NBA as well!

Wayne Ellington

In the first and only game of the night it’s the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves going at it in the 02 Arena in London, England with a crowd that numbered 18,689. For the TWolves it is ex Tar Heel and national champion Wayne Ellington, who comes off the bench to play for twenty minutes. In that time the shooting guard scored nine points (4 for 10 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with two assists, a rebound, a turnover and a +/- of plus four. Greatly thanks to a big time third quarter, where Minnesota outscored Los Angeles 32 to 18, it was the T’Wolves taking the game from the Lakers by double digits, with the final score being 111 to 92. I have to say I would love to see Wayne Ellington getting 20 minutes a game for the `10-`11 season, as it would give him enough playing time to make him at ease with shooting the three ball. But, I do not like to see him being played at the point, since that is not where he belongs, and that might create a problem for him.

As I continue to catch up on my daily post about the North Carolina players in the National Basketball Association which is called “Heels in the League” (NBA). In this edition we check out the games from Sunday, April 4, 2010, where in all there were eight games. Of those five had a touch of Carolina Blue, one of them being a head to head match up. For the complete run down you can either check out ESPN’s Scoreboard Page or RealGM’s recap. But without further ado, let’s get going with this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 04/04/10…

The first game of the night is the only head to head match up between two division leaders that are headed to the post season. It’s the Cleveland Cavaliers (Ec 1st Central – Clinched Conference) headed to Bean Town to take on the Boston Celtics (EC 1st Atlantic – Clinched Division) in what is the fourth (of four) contests between these two teams, with Cleveland leading the series 2 to 1. For the visiting team from C-Town we have three Tar Heels: Antawn Jamison (62 Games: 37.1 MinsPG ~ 18.8 PPG ~ 8.7 RPG ~ 0.3 BPG) who starts for the Cavs and played 31 minutes in all, Jawad Williams (49 Games: 12.6 MinsPG ~ 4.0 PPG ~ 1.4 RPG ~ 0.1 BPG) who comes in for less than a minute and Danny Green, who once again dresses but does not play. For the ex NPOY it’s a double double night, scoring 16 points (5 for 10 ~ 2 for 3 ~ 4 for to go with ten rebounds (1 offensive), an assist, a steal, a block and a TO while haing a +7 pts differential. For the national champ from `05 it’s nothing but a pts differential of -5. On the other side, for the home town team, it’s ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace (72 Games: 22.5 MinsPG ~ 9.1 PPG ~ 4.1 RPG ~ 0.9 BPG), who comes in off the bench for the Celtics and plays 10 minutes. The center scores six points (3 for 5 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with an assist, a block and a +5 pts differential. In the end, in a high scoring pretty tight ending affair, it was Boston winning this one, defeating Cleveland by 4, with the final result being 117 to 113. With the win the Celtics go to 48-28 on the season (.632 winning percentage), 24-15 at home (.615 winning percentage) and are fourth place in the East, 1.0 games behind the third team in the conference. With the loss the Cavs drop to 60-17 on the year (.779 winning percentage), 26-13 on the road (.667 winning percentage) and are atop of the East, 6.0 games ahead of the pack.

Second game of this recap has the Indiana Pacers (EC 4th Central) playing host to the Houston Rockets (WC 4th SW) in an East/West match up of teams out of the playoff. The game, played at Conseco Fieldhouse in front of a crowd of 14,201, was the second (of two) between the teams with the first one going to Indiana. For this game we should be seeing power forward Tyler Hansbrough, but as we know the rookie lottery pick didn’t play as he is going to be out for the season fighting an inner ear infection and maybe more. As far as the game went it was Indiana winning it (and sweeping the series), defeating Houston by 31 points, with the final score being 133 to 102. With the win the Pacers move to 29-48 on the season (.377 winning percentage, 21-17 at home (.552 winning percentage) and are tenth in the East, 10.0 games out of playoff contention.

Halfway through the night’s recap we find another East/West battle as the Orlando Magic (EC 1st SE) play host to the Memphis Grizzlies (WC 3rd SW) for what is the second (of two) games between these teams, the first one having been won by Memphis. For the home town team we find veteran Vince Carter (70 Games: 31.1 MinsPG ~ 16.6 PPG ~ 3.1 APG ~ 4.0 RPG) starting for the Magic and getting 29 minutes in all. In that time the shooting guard has an outstanding night scoring a game high 26 points (9 for 18 ~ 2 for 5 ~ 6 for 7) to go with seven rebounds (3 offensive), six assists, two steals and a turnover while having a game +14 pts differential. As far as the game was concerned it was Orlando beating Memphis in this one by 15, with the final being 107 to 92. With the W the Magic go to 54-23 overall (.701 winning percentage), 31-7 at home (.815 winning percentage) and are second in the East, 6.0 games behind the conference leader and 4.5 ahead of the third team.

We keep going on with the recap once again encoutering an East/West match up as the Golden State Warriors (WC 5th Pacific) head north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors (EC 2nd Atlantic). The game, the second (of two) of the series between these franchises has Golden State leading it 1-0, was played at the Air Canada Centre in front of a crowd that numbered 17,509. For the visiting team from the West Coast it should be forward Brandan Wright, but he does not play due to an injury that has kept him out of the line up the whole season. As far as the game went it was a real tight one, with Golden State winning it by one points, defeating Toronto by the final of 113 to 112 and sweeping the mini series. With the W the Warriors move to 25-53 overall (.303 winning percentage), 6-31 on the road (.162 winning percentage) and are tied for second to last place in the West, 23.5 games out of the playoff chase.

And we close out the night with a divisional rivalry game between the Minnesota Timberwolves (WC 5th NW) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (WC 3rd NW). The game, played at the Ford Center with an attendance of 18,203, was the fourth (of four) games between these franchises, with Oklahoma City having won all the previous ones so far.
And we close this out with the game between the Portland Trail Blazers (WC 4th NW) and the Sacramento Kings (WC 4th Pacific) in what is the fourth (of four) match ups between the teams, with the series being 3-0 for Portland. The game was played at the ARCO Arena in front of an attendance that numbered 12,875. For the home team we see ex UNC big man Sean May (33 Games: 9.2 MinsPG ~ 3.4 PPG ~ 2.0 RPG ~ 0.2 BPG) come off the bench and just play three minutes for the Kings. In that time the power forward does not score (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) and just as a pts differential of +1. In the end it was Portland making a clean sweep of the series by defeating Sacramento 98 to 87. With the loss the Kings slide to 24-53 on the year (.312 winning percentage) and 17-20 at home (.459 winning percentage).

In what is way, way late (first time in a long time this late), here is the recap from the National Basketball Association for Wednesday, March 31, 2010. In all there were a total of 13 games on the schedule, seven of them had a touch of Carolina Blue, two of them being head to head match ups. As usual, if you are looking for the complete run down of the games from 03/31/10 you can always go to ESPN’s Scoreboard Page or to Real GM’s recap. But for now, sit back and relax as we go through this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 03/31/10…

The first game of the day is an East/West match up that has the Atlanta Hawks (EC 2nd SE) playing host to the defending champions, the Los Angeles Lakers (WC 1st Pacific), in a game that was played at the Philips Arena in front of a career high attendance of 20,190. This is the second (of two) games between the teams, with LA winning the first one. For the home squad we have “one and done” Marvin Williams (73 Games: 30.3 MinsPG ~ 10.0 PPG ~ 5.2 RPG ~ 1.1 APG), who starts for the Hawks and gets a total of 31 minutes. The small forward scores just two points in this one (1 for 4 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with five rebounds, an assist, a steal and a pts differential of +12. In the end the game went to Atlanta, who defeated LA by 17 points, with the final score being 109 to 92. With the W the Hawks go to 48-26 (.649 winning percentage) and 31-7 at home (.815 winning percentage).

The fifth game of the night is the other head to head match up of two teams not going to the playoffs, where we have the Sacramento Kings (WC 4th Pacific) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (WC 5th NW) going at it in front of 15,582 fans at the Target Center. The series is at the fourth (of four) games, with Sacramento have won two of the first three games. In this one, for the visiting team from Cali it should be ex UNC big man Sean May, but the power forward does not play (DNP – Bruised Right Knee). On the other side, for the Timberwolves, it’s rookie Wayne Ellington (70 Games: 18.5 MinsPG ~ 6.9 PPG ~ 1.0 APG ~ 2.2 RPG) coming off the bench and playing 17 minutes. In that time frame the shooting guard scores just five points (2 for 3 ~ 1 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with a rebounds, a TO and a -9 pts differential. As far as the game was concerned it was Minnesota winning the game by nine points, defeating Sacramento 108 to 99. With the victory the TWolves go to 15-60 on the year (.200 winning percentage) and 10-27 at home (.270 winning percentage). With the loss the Kings drop to 24-52 on the season (.316 winning percentage) and 7-33 on the road (.175 winning percentage).

This is the third (of four) games between the teams, with the series even at one a piece so far. In this one the center scores 11 points (5 for 7 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 2) to go with eight rebounds (four offensive), a block and a TO while having a +5 pts differential. In the end, in a game that needed overtime to be decided, it was Dallas winning it by four points, defeating Memphis 106 to 102.
And we close up this recap with the game between the Golden State Warriors (WC 5th Pacific) and the Utah Jazz (WC 1st NW), played at the EnergySolutions Arena in front of a crowd that numbered 19,617. This was the second (of three) game between these franchises, with the first game going to Utah. For the visiting team from Cali we should be seeing forward Brandan Wright, but as we all know by now he will not be on the court this season due to his injured shoulder. As far as the game was concerned it was not much of an affair, as Utah took down Golden State by 24 points, with the final score being 128 to 104. With the loss the Warriors drop to 21-53 on the year (.284 winning percentage) and 5-31 on the road (.138 winning percentage).

Once again way late in checking up with the games from Sunday, March 28, 2010 for the ex Heels in the National Basketball Association. In this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) we will be checking out seven games (out of a total of ten), with three of them being head to head match ups. As usual, if you are looking for a run down of the games from 03/28/10 you can go to the Real GM‘s recap or ESPN’s Scoreboard Page. But for now check out this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 03/28/10…

The first game of the night is a head match up between one team atop of the East and the other on the bottom of the West. It’s the Sacramento Kings (WC 4th Pacific) going to C-Town to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers (EC 1st Central) in what is the second game (of two) between them with Cleveland having a 1-0 advantage in the series. The game was played in front of a sold out crowd of 20,562 at the Quicken Loans Arena. For the visiting squad we should be seeing ex UNC big man Sean May, but he is out in this game (DNP – Bruised Right Knee). On the other side we have a trio of ex Tar Heels, with Antawn Jamison (59 Games: 37.2 MinsPG ~ 19.1 PPG ~ 8.6 RPG ~ 0.3 BPG) starting for the Cavs and getting 41 minutes in all, while both Jawad Williams and Danny Green get dressed for the game but do not see any action in this one (DNP – Coach’s Decision). For the ex NPOY under Dean Smith it’s almost a double double outing, scoring 26 points (11 for 21 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 2 for 2) to go with nine rebounds (2 offensive), two assists, a turnover and a pts differential of +7. In a pretty low scoring game it was Cleveland winning the game (and sweeping the series), defeating Sacramento by the final of 97 to 90. With the W the Cavs are now 58-16 on the year (.784 winning percentage) and 32-4 at home (.941 winning percentage). With the loss the Kings drop to 24-50 on the season (.324 winning percentage) and 7-31 on the road (.184 winning percentage).

The next game is once again an East/West match up as the Milwaukee Bucks (EC 2nd Central) host the Memphis Grizzlies (WC 3rd SW) at the Bradley Center in front of a crowd that numbered 17,008. This was the second (of two) games between the franchises with Milwaukee taking the first one. For the home town team it’s veteran guard Jerry Stackhouse (32 Games: 19.9 MinsPG ~ 8.0 PPG ~ 1.7 APG ~ 2.3 RPG), who comes off the bench for 22 minutes. In that time the shooting guard scored seven points (1 for 6 ~ 1 for 4 ~ 4 for 4) to go with two rebounds, two steals, an assist, a pair of TOs and a -7 pts differential. In a game that had to go to overtime to be decided it was Milwaukee winning it (and sweeping the series), defeating Memphis by the final of 108 to 103. With the victory the Bucks go to 40-32 on the year (.556 winning percentage) and 25-11 at home (.694 winning percentage).

The third game of the night is once again a head to head match up between a team going to the post season and one that won’t be going. It’s the Indiana Pacers (EC 4th Center) heading to the Philips Center to take on the Atlanta Hawks (EC 2nd SE) in front of 16,646 fans. This is the third (of three) games between the squads, with Atlanta leading the series 2-0. For the visiting squad it should be lottery pick Tyler Hansbrough, but as we know the Pacer rookie is not going to be playing since he is out with an inner ear infection and maybe a concussion. On the other side we have forward Marvin Williams (72 Games: 30.3 MinsPG ~ 10.1 PPG ~ 5.2 RPG ~ 1.1 APG), who starts for the Hawks and plays 28 minutes. The small forward gets eight points (4 for 9 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with four rebounds (2 offensive) and a TO while getting a pts differential of +9. In the end it was Atlanta winning the game (and sweeping the series), beating Indiana by 10, with the final score being 94 to 84. The win puts the Hawks at 47-26 for the year (.644 winning percentage) and 30-7 at home (.810 winning percentage). The loss drops the Pacers to 27-47 on the season (.365 winning percentage) and 8-31 on the road (.205 winning percentage).

As we move on we have yet again another Conference match up, with two division leaders going at it, as the Denver Nuggets (WC 1st NW) head to the sunshine state to take on the Orlando Magic (EC 1st SE). The game, played in front of 17,461 spectators at the Amway Arena, is the second (of two) between these teams, with Denver winning the first encounter. For the team from the Mile High City it’s rookie point guard Ty Lawson, who dresses but does not play (DNP – Coach’s Decision). On the other side it’s veteran guard Vince Carter (67 Games: 31.0 MinsPG ~ 16.5 PPG ~ 3.1 APG ~ 3.9 RPG), who starts for the Magic, but only plays two minutes before having to come out due to a toe injury. In the end it was Orlando winning the game, beating Denver by a half dozen, with the final score being 103 to 97. With the W the Magic move to 52-22 on the year (.703 winning percentage) and are 30-7 at home (.810 winning percentage). With the loss the Nuggets drop to 48-26 on the season (.649 winning percentage) and 18-20 on the road (.473 winning percentage).

This is the fourth (of four) games between the franchises, with Phoenix having won all the games so far. For the home town team it is guard Wayne Ellington (69 Games: 18.5 MinsPG ~ 6.9 PPG ~ 1.0 APG ~ 2.2 RPG) getting 26 minutes. The shooting guard scored seven points (3 for 7 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 1 for 1) to go with two rebounds, two assists, a steal a TO and a -3 pts differential. As far as the game is concerned it was Phoenix winning the game by a half dozen, defeating Minny by the final of 111 to 105 and sweeping the series.
In the second to last game of this recap it’s once again another East/West battle with the San Antonio Spurs (WC 2nd SW) heading to Bean Town to take on the Boston Celtics (EC 1st Atlantic). The game, the second (of two) with the first one won by Boston, was played at the TD Garden in front of 18,624 fans. For the home town team it’s Rasheed Wallace (70 Games: 22.7 MinsPG ~ 9.0 PPG ~ 4.1 RPG ~ 0.9 BPG), who starts for the Celtics and plays a total of 25 minutes. The ex UNC big man scored seven points (2 for 5 ~ 1 for 4 ~ 2 for 4) to go with eight rebounds, one steal, one block and a TO to go with a team high -5 pts differential. In the end this was definitely a lopsided game, with San Antonio winning it by 21 points, defeating Boston by the final score of 94 to 73. With the loss the Celtics drop to 47-26 on the year (.644 winning percentage) and 23-13 at home (.638 winning percentage)

And we close out with a divisional match up between squads not heading to the playoffs. It’s the Golden State Warriors (WC 5th Pacific) going to the STAPLES Center to take on the Los Angeles Clippers (WC 3rd Pacific) in front of a crowd that numbered 17,868. This was the third (of four) game between them, with the series being even. For the visiting squad we should be seeing forward Brandan Wright, but as we know the injury to his shoulder he hasn’t played all season long. In the end, it was Golden State winning this one going away, defeating LA by 18 points, with the final score being 121 to 103. With the win the Warriors head to 21-52 (.288 winning percentage) and 5-30 on the road (.142 winning percentage).

While Thursday was a very small recap when it came to the ex players now in the National Basketball Association, yesterday’s schedule for the NBA was huge, with eleven game, eight of them with a touch of Carolina Blue, three of those being head to head match ups. Meaning that out of 22 teams in action on Friday, March 26, 2010 half of them have ex UNC players on their rosters. As usual, if you are looking for the total recap for the night’s action you can get it on ESPN. But for now, without further ado, here is this “Heels in the League” (NBA) recap for the games from 03/26/10…

In the first game of the night it’s the Indiana Pacers (EC 4th Central) play host to the Utah Jazz (WC 2nd NW), played at Conseco Fieldhouse in front of 15,463 spectators. This was the second (of two) games between these squads, with Utah having won the first match up. For the home squad it would be power forward Tyler Hansbrough, but as we all know by now the lottery pick for the Pacers is out for the remainder of the season. As far as the game went it was Indiana taking it and evening up the series, defeating Utah by 16 points, with the final being 122 to 106. With the win the Pacers go to 27-46 overall (. winning percentage), 19-16 at home (.542 winning percentage) and are tenth in the East, 9.0 games behind the last playoff team.
