After about a week (if not more) where I just could not get involved with anything blogging, mostly due with site problems – real life things – time crunching situations, I am back and ready to get back going and starting to work on what is going to be a summer long daily post, “Heels in the League” (MLB), about the ex Diamond Heels in the Major League. This edition is going to check out the games from Thursday, April 15, 2010, where all three of the Major Leaguers’ teams were in action, for a complete rundown of the day’s games you can check out ESPN’s Scoreboard Page. But for now, without any more interruptions, let’s get going with this recap from 04/15/10…

The first game of the night with a touch of Carolina Blue would be the third game of a three game series between the Boston Red Sox (4th AL East) and the Minnesota Twins (1st AL Central). The game was played at the brand new Target Field with an attendance of 38,341 (97.1% capacity). For the visiting team it would be relief pitcher Daniel Bard (6 Games: 1-0 ~ 0 saves ~ 3.00 ERA ~ 6.0 IP ~ 4 hits ~ 2 runs (both earned) ~ 1 HR ~ 3 BBs ~ 4 K’s), but the righty does not get any action in this game. As far as the game went it was Minnesota winning this one big, as they defeated Boston by the final of 8-0. With the loss the Red Sox slide to below .500 at 4-5 on the year (.444 winning percentage), 3-3 on the road (.500 winning percentage) and are 4th in the AL East, 2.5 games back of the division leader.

Next game on tap with a hint of Carolina Blue is the one between the Baltimore Orioles (5th AL East) and the Oakland A’s (1st AL West). The game, first (of a 4 game series), was played at Oakland Coliseum with just 17,382 present (49.6% capacity). For the visiting team from the East Coast it’s second baseman Brian Roberts, but he is out on the 15 day DL since April 11th. As far as the game went it was Oakland defeating Baltimore by the final score of 6 to 2. With the loss the Orioles go to 1-9 overall (.100 winning percentage), 1-3 on the road (.250 winning percentage) and are 5th in the AL East, 6.0 games behind the division leader.

And lastly, with the only team from the National League to have a touch of Carolina Blue, it’s the Colorado Rockies (2nd NL West) hosting the New York Mets (5th NL East) in the last game of a three game series. The game was played in front of a crowd that numbered 26,195 (51.9% capacity) at Coors Field. For the team from the Mile High City we have catcher Chris Iannetta (4 Games: .235 BA (4 for 17) ~ .588 SLG ~ 2 HRs ~ 2 RBIs ~ 2 BBs ~ 4 Ks), who does not play in this one. As far as the game went it was a shut out for NY, as they beat Colorado by the final of 5-0. With the loss the Rockies fall to 5-4 overall (.555 winning percentage), 4-2 at home (.667 winning percentage) and 2nd in the NL West, 2.0 games behind the division leader.

As we keep moving trying to catch up with this (not so) daily post about the ex Diamond Heels now in Major League Baseball here is this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the games from Wednesday, April 7, 2010. In all there were fifteen games on the schedule and all three of the teams with a touch of Carolina were playing. For a full run down for the games from 04/07/10 you can check out ESPN’s Scoreboard Page. But, without further ado, here is this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the games from 04/07/10…

The first game of the night is the rubber game of a three game series between the New York Yankees (AL East) and the Boston Red Sox (AL East) in what is supposed to be the biggest rivalry in baseball if not all sports. The game was played in front of 38,238 fans (103.5% capacity) at Fenway Park. For the home town team it’s relief pitcher Daniel Bard who comes in for the third game in a row, this time for 1.1 innings, giving up no runs on one hit, no walks while getting a strike out (15 pitches/12 strikes) ERA: 0.00. In the three game series the righty pitched for 3.1 innings giving up no runs. In a low scoring affair, that went into the tenth inning, it was New York winning this one, taking down Boston by the final of 3 to 1. With the loss the Red Sox are now 1-2 on the year (.333 winning percentage) and 1-2 at home.

Second game of the night, the other team from the American League with a touch of Carolina Blue, is the second of a three game series between divisional foes the Baltimore Orioles (AL East) and the Tampa Bay Rays (AL East). For the visiting squad from Charm City it’s second baseman Brian Roberts, who hits first for the Orioles and goes 0 for 5 once again, with out strike out on the day. In all there were just seven games on tap, and out of the four major league team with an ex Diamond Heel three were in action. For the complete run down of the day’s games you can check out ESPN’s Scoreboard Page. But for now, sit back and relax as we check out the games from 04/06/10…

First game of the night is a divisional match up (some would say the biggest rivalry in baseball if not sports) as the Boston Red Sox (AL East) take on the New York Yankees (AL East) at the Fenway Park in front of 38,000 fans (102.9% capacity). This was the second game of a three game series. For the home town team it’s relief pitcher Daniel Bard, who once again gets an inning of work (2nd day in a row), giving up no runs on a walk and striking out one (16 pitches/9 strikes) ERA: 0.00. In the end, coming from behind, New York won the game, defeating Boston , by the final of 6 to 4. With the loss the Red Sox are now 1-1 overall (.500 winning percentage) and 1-1 at home (.500 winning percentage).

The second game of the recap is once again a divisional battle from the American League East as the Baltimore Orioles (AL East) going at it with the Tampa Bay Rays (AL East). The game, which was played at Tropican Field in front of a crowd that numbered 36,973 (102.6% capacity), is the third of a three game series. For the visiting squad from Charm City, it’s second baseman Brian Roberts, who bats first for the Orioles and goes 0 for 5 in this one, with a strike out and nothing more. As far as the game went, it was a one run affair, where by scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth Tampa Bay got the win, beating Baltimore 4-3. With the loss the Orioles are 0-1 on the year (.000 winning percentage) and 0-1 on the road (.000 winning percentage).

The game was played at Miller Park in front of a crowd of 37,344 (89.1% capacity). For the visiting team it’s catcher Chris Iannetta who didn’t have a great night going 0 for 4 in this one, with two strike outs. As far as the game was concerned it was Milwaukee winning this one, defeating Colorado by the final of 7 to 5. With the loss the Rockies are 1-1 overall (.500 winning percentage) and 1-1 on the road (.500 winning percentage).

Welcome, even if way late, to the first edition of the 2010 season of “Heels in the League” (MLB). Opening night as we all know it was Sunday, April 4, 2010, with just one game going on, which however had an ex Diamond Heel present. And as we know, whatever the sport might be, whether one or all the ex UNC players are playing there is going to be a recap of the game. As usual, if you are looking for the complete run down for the night’s game you can always check out ESPN’s <a href="http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/scoreboard?date=20100404 target="_blank">Scoreboard Page. However, for now, sit back and enjoy this first edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the game from 04/04/10…

The first and only game of the night that had an ex Diamond Heel was the divisional match up that had the Boston Red Sox (AL East) hosting the world champions New York Yankees (AL East) at Fenway Park in front of 37,440 fans. For the home squad from Bean Town we have relief pitcher Daniel Bard who goes 1.0 IP giving up no runs on no hits and just one walk. Bard threw 17 pitches/7 strikes. As far as the game went it was Boston coming from behind and winning it, defeating NY by the final of 9 to 7.

Now in catch up mode for my (not so) daily post about the ex Diamond Heels in the Pro’s, here is the second edition for today of “Heels in the League” (MLB). Not as good of an overall performance as the last outing for the ex North Carolina players. On the other hand in this edition we see the only pitcher in the Big Leagues getting an inning of action and doing ok for his squad. This and much more, on The Fifth Corner, in this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the games from August 24, 2009…

Due to many things both online and real life, including one that will be shown to all of you in the next few days this (not so) daily post is once again in trouble of falling so behind it’s not funny. So, be sure to check out The Fifth Corner several times today/tomorrow/Sunday as I will make an attempt to catch it all up. For now enjoy this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the games from August 23, 2009 where there were plenty of good perfomances by ex Diamond Heels both in the Majors and in the minors.

Not a great day for the batters from Chapel Hill as they went 3 for 18 overall, while the two ex North Carolina pitchers who took to the mound gave up two runs (one apiece) in 6.1 innings pitched combined, unfortunately one of them got the loss during his outing, while the other gave up a run in his inning on the rubber. All of that and much more in this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the games from August 22, 2009.
A pretty good day for the ex Diamond Heels, for the hitters, as most getting at least a hit, while the ex Carolina pitchers did not see any action. Great day for a Big Leaguer, who got two homers on the night as well as three RBIs. As the summer slowly goes away some of the UNC players seem to be heating up for the final stretch of the season. And it’s all right here, on The Fifth Corner, in this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the games from August 21, 2009…

All I can say in this recap, thank goodness for the couple that did play, cause between the rain out and many, many not playing this small recap would have been hard to do. However, as well all know, if there is just one player to talk about there is going to be a “Heels in the League” (MLB) to talk about it (or give you the small run down). One bright side: there was an ex Diamond Heel that hit his second homer in just as many games. Check it all out in this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the game from July 20, 2009…

Short edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) this evening (due to the time). However be sure that tomorrow all the ex Diamond Heels will be featured once again. Overall not a bad day for the batters that arrived from Chapel Hill, while none of the ex UNC pitchers got any action on the day. Stay tuned, either tomorrow or over the weekend, for an update on both Dustin Ackley and Alex White as I have procured an interview with a Indians’ blog for the latter.
