One last time for these Seniors…

Dean DomeTonight is senior night for North Carolina (15-14 & 4-10), as we say good bye to Deon Thompson, Marcus Ginyard and four other seniors, as they play host to Miami (18-10 & 4-10 in the ACC) at the Dean Dome. The sad part, truly sad, is that there are still seats/tickets available for this game. Add to this that `93 Final Four MOP Donald Williams will be honored as well as last season’s women soccer team. But wait, there is more, Carolina is coming off its best game of the 2010 part of the year, and probably the best overall game since the MSU game way back when. And if they win, this could be a streak for the Tar Heels in conference play. Again I say, all of this and the Dome might not be full tonight? Yikes! How many have said they expect the most of players in this uniform, well, as fans of this team we should ask more of ourselves.

What can you truly say about this game? Both of these clubs have had pretty bad years, of course for North Carolina it’s been a lot worst than most expected, however Miami who has gone from 15-1  to 18 and 10 can not have been fun either. Can this be a W for Carolina? Sure, if they play in the same manner they did in the last game when they faced a tougher Wake Forest squad on the road. On the other hand, let’s not forget that a team with plenty of NBA’ers on it needed a miracle shot by Ty Lawson in order to win last year’s match up. In other words, this game is going to be one of those that you might win big, might lose big or it might be a squeaker.

In the end, in what has been a season that “it is what it is” the seniors, especially Ginyard and Thompson, didn’t want to leave their parting year as a squad that won’t be going to the NCAA and is sub .500 in conference play. But in the end, for both of them, for the rest of the seniors, for any and all that have donned the Carolina Blue, they will be Tar Heels forever and ever and for that all I can humbly say is this: thank you so much!
