In the last days or so I had come across some links about ex North Carolina wide receiver, Hakeem Nicks, but with real life and blogging about the North Carolina men’s basketball team I never put them up. Well, I am going to do so now, in this small post. First, from ProFootballTalk comes word that the wide out is going to be visiting the Baltimore Ravens. It also points out that Nicks is still recovering from a strained hamstring, which he had suffered at the Combine. This had limited the all conference receiver from doing all that he could at Carolina’s Pro Day.
Another piece online, this one from the Palm Beach Post, tells us that Hakeem Nicks worked out for Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano of the Miami Dolphins. The online article also said the Nicks wasn’t the only Heel to be looked at by Parcells and Sparano. The others were: wide receiver Brooks Foster, tight end Richard Quinn and safety Trimane Goddard. The Dolphins are also interested in Percy Harvin, but are pretty sure he will be gone by the time they choose (25th overall). Miami, who is looking for a big, sturdy WR, that can catch the ball and find the endzone, could easily take Nicks for that purpose. The fact that Bill Parcells was at the work out, something he hasn’t been inclined to do makes this thought even more realistic.
Lastly, from the NFL Gridiron Gab, comes a mock draft where they have Hakeem Nicks going to the Jacksonville Jaguars at the 39th slot (2nd round). I find that hard to believe, even if Nicks was to fall, he would not fall that far. The site says the following about the Tar Heel receiver:
This pick is a no-brainer for the Jaguars, and would actually be a very lucky situation for them if Nicks were to fall to them here. I could actually see them trading back in the first to take a wideout, but for now they get Nicks who busted out this season, leapfrogging his teammate Brandon Tate who suffered an injury.
As you can plainly see even the writer isn’t sure if the ex wide out would fall this low. As I keep reading more and more about Nicks and the `09 NFL Draft the more I believe that the Carolina receiver is going to hear his name before the first round is over. There are many teams looking for a good wide out in the first round, from the Dolphins, to the Giants and the Colts.
Lastly, here is a good video from the world leaders of sports about the top WRs and TEs that will be going in this year’s draft:

I wish my NY Giants could get Hakeem, now that they released Burress.
