Last Friday North Carolina began its year long celebration of “100 years of basketball” with a star studded game between ex Tar Heels. Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Tyler Hansbrough, head coach Roy Williams and of course Dean Smith were all there. With them there were another 20+ players that made their mark first in Chapel Hill and then in the National Basketball Association. Over 21 thousand filled the seats to capacity to watch these stars shine once again in the Dean Dome. Some of those in attendance were not just fans, they were UNC recruits. Of those James McAdoo, distant relative of another UNC player Bob McAdoo, decided that it was time to commit.

McAdoo, a 6’8″/205 lbs. power forward, who some have compared to Vince Carter (for the record I am not one of those people) is going to be a heck of a player for head coach Roy Williams. The young man, who is part of the 2011 class, is from Norfolk, Va. made his verbal commitment after what was an unofficial visit to Chapel Hill. McAdoo is a five star recruit for both the Rivals and Scout web site, with the first one having him as the sixth best player in his class and the latter saying he is the second best. ESPN, who does not give out stars, has James McAdoo as the third best player in the 2011 class.

All in all this is once again sign of what it means to have the alumni that UNC has and what it means to have a top notch recruiter like Roy Williams. I will leave you with a YouTube video of James McAdoo, and say congratulations to him of now being part of the “Carolina Family”.
