Lunardi on the fence about the Heels…

Going through the World Leader in Sports I found this video of Joe Lunardi talking about the Tar Heels (and other teams). What he said, that North Carolina might not make the tournament, might not surprise anyone right now. But if you think back to a couple of months ago saying those same words would have put the Tar Heel Nation in a full out up roar. As I have said many times this year, this season is getting labeled under “it is what it is”, and seeing this video still does not change my mind on the `09-`10 team. Do I still believe that Carolina can make the big dance? Yes. I also know that most of the fan base might not agree with me, but I just see something there, right there, for this squad of very talented players, and if they can find it and work together, they could be really good come tournament time.

Let’s all remember this very clearly. Out of the seven losses five are to ranked opponents, three to Top 5 teams (with a combined 2 losses). Out of those seven losses three are of a combined six points. A couple of the others would have been closer (less than double figures) if not for the “last minute of fouling” that happens in the games. This squad is a seven loss team, but it could be a three-four loss team just as easy. If it played the OOC schedule of other top teams it might be a 1-2 loss squad.

Does that mean anything at this point? No. But if you have someone that can argue for the Atlantic Coast Conference the proper way that should come out when the committee meets. I am not asking to be given anything we don’t deserve, I am asking to make sure that when you put teams in and leave teams out that the schedule each of them have played is put into the mix.

For the time being let’s see what the team does against North Carolina State, as it may just show where this team is headed for the rest of the season and the post season.
