Lawson: ACC Player of the Year

Lawson: ACC POY

From the official web site of the Atlantic Coast Conference: Ty Lawson is the conference player of the year! From what the online article said he got 31 out of the 76 votes, just four more than second place Toney Douglas (FSU). It’s the 13th time a Carolina player has won this award, tieing Duke for most in the ACC history. It also marked the first time that UNC has won it in consecutive seasons since Larry Miller in 1967 and ’68. Lawson becomes only the second point guard to get this award, joining another Heel, Phil Ford.

Congratulation to Ty Lawson on this award, his hard work this season has been rewarded. And while people are going to say that he won it because of where he went to school, I think that is totally wrong, because the young man did a heck of a job at leading this team.

From another online article it states that the conference has also selected the Coach of the Year, and it’s FSU’s Leonard Hamilton, winning it with 55 votes. Boston College’s Al Skinner was second with 10 votes, followed by Wake Forest’s Dino Gaudio (6), Clemson’s Oliver Purnell (2), North Carolina’s Roy Williams (2) and Maryland’s Gary Williams (1).
