Heels in Washington & Srs Graduating

unc-bb-team-in-washingtonAs I said in a post yesterday the Men’s Basketball team went to meet the President. Here below are a couple videos of President Barack Obama speaking about the Tar Heels in the Rose Garden. He is also presented with a plaque by the scholarship seniors from when he played basketball with them a year ago. I have to say I love the phrase “if someone could present me with a jump shot, I need that”. Adam Lucas, who I think is as good as it gets when talking about North Carolina writers, has a piece about the team going to Washington, with some great quotes, as well as a side story of how Ty Lawson met up with the rest of the team. Here is the first clip I found about the Heels with the President:

This is another video (most of the same stuff), but I figured I could give you as much as possible when it comes to UNC. Another great line by the President who said “that’s what I am talking about” when head coach Roy Williams handed him his North Carolina jerseys. In this video Pres. Obama talks about his bracket (thanking them for salvaging it). He also congratulates the seniors who graduates, and pokes fun at his assistant Reggie Love, who is a Duke alumni. Lastly, the comment about who’s luck rubbed off on whom, since he is now President and they are national champions.

Lastly, over at Inside Carolina and at Tar Heel Blue (the official web site), there are so many great pictures about the event. Check them all out, they are the true meaning of “a picture is worth a 1,000 words” and I am sure for these young men, as well as the staff, this experience will be a life long memory.

Lastly, here is a piece about the Tar Heel seniors graduating. In a lot of ways this is just as great to me, being a Tar Heel, than winning a national title. An education is a victory that will never go away, it’s a goal that many people should think about more seriously, because once the glamour of the game is gone an education will never fade away. Congratulations to the whole team for their great run in this year’s tournament, for being VIP’s at the White House, and to the seniors for getting their degree. Also, a link, from the official site of the University of North Carolina, to a slide show about the ceremony (does not have the UNC BB in it).

Lastly, I found this nugget, the resolution submitted to the Committee on Education and Labor. Once again, something that will be there for the rest of time.
