Heels in the NBA Summer League 07/15/09
(Note: This would have been posted yesterday had my web host been working properly) It is once again time to check out how the ex Tar Heels are doing in the NBA Summer League (Vegas version). In yesterday’s games two two with a touch of carolina blue were in action, one team with a player that most definitely will be on the roster in the upcoming season and the other with a player who was in the NBDL last season and not sure if he will be able to make the jump to the Association in the `09-`10 season. But the regular season is far away, so let’s just worry about this for now…
In the first game with an ex Carolina player on it is the match up between the New York Knicks, who has David Noel on their roster, and the Detroit Pistons. For the ex pupil of Roy Williams it’s the second game in a row (out of two played by the Knicks) that he does not see any action. In the end the game is not close from the get go, where Detroit takes a 30 to 19 lead in the first quarter and win by 23 points, beating New York 96 to 73. In the first game the Knicks played 10 players, this time they play 11 and have four not see one minute of action. I have to say that to me that makes no sense. If you are going to bring them get them in the game.
In the other game, which is a match up between the Denver Nuggets going up against the Washington Wizards. In this game, as the starting point guard, is Ty Lawson, who gets 26 and a half minutes. In that time the reigning ACC Player of the Year got seven points (1 for 8 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 5 for 6), to go along with four assists, three boards, and a steal. The ex point guard from Chapel Hill did also have two turnovers on the night. When it was all said and done it was Denver winning a low scoring event, beating Washington 77 to 70. That type of score is definitely not going to help Lawson, who from a tweet I got was “with a hand taped up” after the game.
