Continuing with my weekly posts about the ex North Carolina players in the National Football League, here is another batch of games to check out from the Week Two games. As all know I was supposed to do this yesterday, but I could not multi task by watching the Indy/Miami game and typing up the post. So, even if late here is the third part of “Heels in the League” (NFL), the fourth (and final) post for Week Two will be coming out either later this afternoon or tonight, but for now enjoy this one…
The next game to be looked at is the one that featured the defending Super Bowl champions Pittsburgh Steelers to Soldier Field to play against the Chicago Bears in front of 62,231 fans. For the home team there are no ex UNC players on the roster, while for the Steelers there are three (the most on any roster in the NFL). The first player is running back Willie Parker, who has been in the NFL for 6 years, who had 47 yards on 14 carries. The next is fifth year man Greg Warren, who does the long snapping for Pittsburgh, and the last one is Jeff Reed, an eight year veteran, who didn’t have the best game of his career by missing two crucial field goals. In the end it was Chicago beating Pittsburgh by the final score of 17 to 14, dropping the team to 1 and 1. Over at the NFL Gridiron Gab there are two very good post about the game. First one, the recap, entitled Bears Rally to Stun Steelers 17-14 in Rainy Chicago, while the other speaks directly about Jeff Reed, Steelers Kicker Makes No Excuses

For the next game with a touch of carolina blue we head to Ralph Wilson Stadium, where in front of 70,318 fans the Buffalo Bills (-4.5) hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The home team doesn’t have any ex Heels on their team, on the other hand the Bucs do, defensive tackle Ryan Sims, who had two tackles (one solo). Unfortunately for the eight year vet and the rest of his squad it was not going to be their day as Buffalo won the game easily, defeating Tampa Bay by the final of 33 to 20, sending the Bucs to a 0 and 2 record for the young season. Stephen Rhodes at NFL Gridiron Gab says Owens, Defense Help Bills Trample Buccaneers 33-20.

The last game for this post is the one between the Houston Texans (+7) and the Tennessee Titans, played at LP Field in front of 69,143. The Titans have two ex North Carolina players on their roster, tight end Alge Crumpler and line backer David Thornton. The tight end, in the league for nine years, had 4 catches for 44 yards, while the line backer, who has been playing in the NFL for eight seasons, had six tackles (6 solos) along with a tackle for loss. In the end all of this didn’t help as Houston defeated Tennessee by a field goal, with the final being 34 to 31.
