Heels in the League (NBA) 12/27/09
And we are back, once again, to check out the games from yesterday’s action in the National Basketball Association, where the slate had six games in all, four of them with a touch of carolina blue. Of the four none of them were head to head match ups, which is unsual for this year. As you have might have noticed I am trying to put more and more links to this post, that I call “Heels in the League” (NBA), so that you guys can have the best information out there. So, sit back and relax, as I go over the recap of the games from Sunday, December 27, 2009…
The first game of the night has the Cleveland Cavaliers hosting the Houston Rockets at the Quicken Loans Arean, in a game that was full to the rafters with 20,526 fans at it (max capacity: 20,562). For the home squad we have the duo of national champions: Jawad Williams and Danny Green. Green does not even dress for this game, but Williams gets five minutes in this one, where he doesn’t score (0 for 3 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) but has three rebounds and an assist on the night. In the end, this was not too close, as Cleveland took down Houston by the final of 107 to 83. With the win the Cavaliers are now 24 and 8 {.800 winning percentage} for the year, half a game behind the conference leading Celtics.

The second game has the Indiana Pacers heading to the sunshine state to play the Miami Heat. A game that was played at the AmericanAirlines Arena in front of a very full house of 19,600 (max capacity: 20,000). For the visiting team we have rookie Tyler Hansbrough, who gets 26 minutes off the bench, recording a double double in an unsual way. The power forward scored 10 points (0 for 5 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 10 for 10) all from the free throw line, as well as 10 rebounds, one assist, a steal and a block. However this game was not close as Miami beat Indiana by 34 points, with the final score being 114 to 80. With the loss the Pacers drop to 9 and 20 (.310 winning percentage), putting them 13th in the Eastern Conference (2.5 games out of the playoff chase).

In the third game of the night it’s the Denver Nuggets hosting the Dallas Mavericks. The game played at the Pepsi Center in front of a crowd that numbered 19,756 (max capacity: N/A). For the home team it’s another rookie, Ty Lawson, playing for another Tar Heel, head coach George Karl. The speedster from Chapel Hill starts in this one, getting 30 minutes, scoring 16 points (6 for 11 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 3 for 3) to go with four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a pair of turnovers. While Lawson is getting better and better as the season goes on this was not enough as Dallas beat Denver by the final of 104 to 96. With the loss the Nuggets fall to 20 and 11 (.645 winning percentage). Denver is five games behind the LA Lakers and three behind Dallas in the Western Conference.

And finally in a game that clashed east coast vs west coast it was the Boston Celtics going to STAPLES Arena to take on the Los Angeles Clippers. A game that was played in front of a crowd that numbered 19,060 (max capacity: 18,997). For the traveling squad from Bean Town it’s ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace, who got 24 minutes in all. In that time frame the center scored eight points on a bad shooting night (4 for 16 ~ 0 for 6 ~ 0 for 0) to go with three boards, two assists, a steal and a block. It what was the closest game of the night (for this recap) it’s Los Angeles pulling out the upset at home, defeating Boston by the final score of 92 to 90. With the loss the Celtics are now 23 and 6 (.793 winning percentage) and are the best team in the Eastern Conference.
