I hope that all of you had a great Christmas and got all that you wished for (I know I did, as my wife was able to be home and be with me). Friday, December 25, 2009 also brought not one or two, but five basketball games, all televised on either ABC or ESPN, and of course some of them have Carolna playeds in them. In all there were three games that concerned player that once called Chapel Hill home, one of them was a head to head match up. So this Christmassy edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) gives all of you that follow this daily post five Heels, four teams, three games, two guards and a partridge and a pear tree (ok, that might have been corny), but sit back and enjoy the recap of the games from 12/25/09…

In the first game of the day to have a touch of carolina blue it’s the one that has UNC players on both benches as the Boston Celtics travel south to the sunshine state to take on the Orlando Magic. The game was played at the Amway Arena in front of a virtual sell out crowd of 17,461 (max capacity: 17,519). For the visiting team we see ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace, who in 22 minutes came close to having a double double in this game. The ex pupil of Dean Smith scored 11 points (5 for 7 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with eight rebounds, two steals, a block and a TO. Meanwhile for the home team we have Vince Carter, who plays 32 minutes and has a game high scoring night. The shooting guard went off for 27 points (10 for 20 ~ 1 for 4 ~ 6 for 7) along with four steals, two assists and a pair of turnovers. In the end it was Boston winning the game, defeating Orlando by 9, with the final score being 86 to 77. With the win the Celtics are now 23 and 5, while the loss drops the Magic to 22 and 8.

For the visiting team from C Town it’s the duo of national champions: Jawad Williams and Danny Green. The first one got in for less than a minute in this one (getting nothing on the box score), while the second didn’t even dress for the game. In the end, in this one, it was Cleveland winning it, beating Los Angeles by 15, with the final tally being 102 to 87. With the W the Cavs are now 23 and 8, while the loss puts the Lakers at 23 and 5 on the year.

Finally, the last game of the night, has the Denver Nuggets heading to the Rose Garden to take on the Portland Trail Blazers in a game that was played in front full capacity building of 20,664 spectators (max capacity: 20,630). For the team from the mile high city it’s rookie Ty Lawson, who comes off the bench to get 18 minutes, but doesn’t have a good game by his standard. The point guard scores just two points (0 for 3 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 2 for 2) to add to two rebounds, and an assist. When it was all said and done it was Portland defeating Denver by 11, with the final score being 107 to 96. With the loss the Nuggets fall to 20 and 10 on the `09-`10 season.
