Getting a very late start to this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) (thanks to real life taking over on a Sunday morning) let’s check the games from yesterday, Saturday, December 19, 2009. In all the National Basketball Association had nine games, six of those included Tar Heels in them, amazingly enough none were head to head match ups. So, without any more interruptions, let’s get going with this recap from 12/19/09…

The first game of the night had the Orlando Magic playing host to the Portland Trail Blazers. The game was played at Amway Arena in front of an almost sold out crowd of 17,461 (max capacity: 17,519). For the home squad it’s shooting guard Vince Carter, who starts and gets 35 minutes in all. The ex Dean Smith pupil does not have a great shooting night, scoring nine points (1 for 14 ~ 0 for 3 ~ 7 for 8), along with seven rebounds, three assists, a steal and a pair of turnovers. However, even with Carter not having a great night it’s still Miami winning the game by 9, defeating Portland by the final of 92 to 83. It was not just the Heel to have a bad shooting night, as most of the Magic were off in this game. With the W the Magic have now reached the 20 wins on the season (20-7). Over at the Orlando Pinstripe Post they have their recap of the game, while at Slam Dunk Central Jeff Sack talks about Double-Double By D-Howard.

The next game from yesterday has the Charlotte Bobcats playing host to the Utah Jazz. The game was played in front of a crowd that numbered 14,963 (max capacity: 19,026) at the Time Warner Cable Arena. For the home team we have ex UNC point guard Raymond Felton, who starts at the same position for the Bobcats and gets 32 minutes in all. The ex Heel has a so-so night, with 11 points (5 for 9 ~ 1 for 1 ~ 0 for 0), two steals, two assists, a board, but also a whopping six turnovers. As far as the game goes, it was Utah winning this one by 8 points, defeating Charlotte by the final of 110 to 102. With the loss the Bobcats are now 10 and 15 on the year. Rufus on Fire plainly says the following of the game: Bobcats Lose to Jazz 110-102 .

Next game on tap is the one matching up the Atlanta Hawks and the Chicago Bulls. A game that was played at the United Center in front of a pretty close to capacity crowd of 21,381 (max capacity: 21,711). For the visiting Hawks we have Marvin Williams, who gets the nod at the small forward, and plays 31 minutes in all. In that time frame the ex national champ only scores four points (1 for 7 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 2 for 2), seven rebounds, two steals, two blocks and an assist. In a game that went into overtime it was Chicago pulling it out, defeating Atlanta by 3, 101 to 98. With the loss the Hawks are still under 20 wins on the year, with a record of 19 and 7. Peachtree Hoops says the following about the game: Joe Johnson tries his hat at 06-07 Kobe Bryant.

The fourth game of the night has the Sacramento Kings going to Bradley Center to take on the Milwaukee Bucks, with a pretty small crowd crowd of 13,745 (max capacity: 18,717). For the visiting squad it’s ex UNC big man Sean May, who for what is now too many games to count, dresses and does not see the floor (DNP – Coach’s Decision) for his Kings. As far as the game went, even if @basketballista didn’t think so, it was Sacramento taking this one by one, beating Milwauke by the final tally of 96 to 95. The W puts the Kings 2 games under .500, at 12 and 14 on the year.

The second to last game of the night has the Indiana Pacers heading to the lone star state to take on the San Antonio Spurs. The game played at the AT&T Center in front of a crowd of 17,075 (max capacity: 18,797). For the visting Pacers we have rookie Tyler Hansbrough, who gets 23 minutes off the bench in this one. The ex forward for Roy Williams scores nine points (3 for 9 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 3 for 3), six rebounds and a turnover. Once again in a game decided by a single point it was San Antonio winning the game, beating Indiana by the final score of 100 to 99. With the loss the Pacers remain in single digit wins at 9 and 16. Finally, we have the game between the Washington Wizards and the Phoenix Suns. Played at US Airways Center in front of 16,881 spectators (max capacity: 18,422). For the visiting team from the nation’s capital we have the pair of Heels, Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood. Jamison, who starts at the power forward slot, get 29 minutes of playing time, scoring 15 points (7 for 15 ~ 1 for 4 ~ 0 for 0) and four rebounds. Haywood, the starting center, gets 26 minutes, scoring just three points (1 for 2 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 3), to go with six rebounds (2 off. boards), three blocks, an assist and a TO. In what can be described as the biggest beat down of the night it was Phoenix winning by double digits, demoloshing Washington, by a final of 121 to 95. With the loss Washington falls to 8 and 17 on the `09-`10 season. At the number one blog for the Wizards, Truth About It, they have the recap with their frames & video.
