Heels in the League (NBA) 12/18/09 (Part 2)

(NBA) 12/18/09

(NBA) 12/18/09

Having done the first half of this recap this morning (check it out here), having then watched the game between UNC and Texas (stay tuned for the recap of that tonight), I am now going to work on the second half of the games from Friday, December 18, 2009. In this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) we have three games that have Tar Heels on the rosters, with two of these games having UNC players on both benches. So, without further ado, check out the games from 12/18/09…

In the first game it’s a match up between two teams that have Carolina players, with the Sacramento Kings head to the Target Center to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in front of a crowd that is of 13,144 (max capacity: 20,500). For the visiting Kings it’s ex national champ Sean May, who once again does not see any action (DNP – Coach’s Decision). While for the TWolves we have rookie shooting guard Wayne Ellington, who comes off the bench to play just eight minutes. In that time the ex national champ gets two points (1 for 2 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) along with three boards. As far as the game went it was Minnesota winning this one pretty easily, taking down Sacramento 112 to 96, thanks to Minny shutting down Evans. With the W the TWolves are now 5 and 22, while the Kings go to 11 and 14 on the season.

The next game has the Indiana Pacers heading down to take on the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum in front of 13,217 fans (max capacity: 18,119). For the visiting squad we see another rookie from Chapel Hill, Tyler Hansbrough, who comes off the bench for the Pacers and plays 22 minutes in all. For the ex NPOY it’s a 14 points game (4 for 13 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 6 for 6), four rebounds (2 on the offensive side) and two steals. In the end it was, thanks to a big third quarter, Memphis beating Indiana by double digits, with the final being 107 to 94. With the loss the Pacers slide to 9 and 15 on the season. And to end a big recap day, it’s the Washington Wizards going cross country to take on the Golden State Warriors at the ORACLE Arena in front of a crowd of 17,423 (max capacity: 19,596). For the visiting team it’s the duo of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood, who both start. The forward and ex NPOY gets 37 minutes, but drops off big time in scoring (but manages a double double) as Jamison only has 10 points (4 for 14 ~ 1 for 6 ~ 1 for 2), 10 rebounds, four steals, one assist and a pair of turnovers. Haywood also has a double double on the night, while playing 33 minutes in all. The ex UNC big man scores 15 points (7 for 9 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 2), to go with 12 rebounds, a steal and one TO. For the home team it’s should be forward Brandan Wright playing, but he is still recovering from his shoulder injury and won’t be on the floor anytime soon. In great part thanks to Arenas’ 45 points night it was Washington beating Golden State by 9, with the final being 118 to 109. The victory puts the Wizs at 8 and 16, while the loss drops the Warriors to 7 and 19.
