Having done the first part of this recap from yesterday, Wednesday, December 16, 2009 (if you haven’t seen it yet you can see by going here), here is the second part of it. Another four games that involve ex six ex Tar Heels, including another match up where there are ex Carolina players on both benches. (A reminder, tomorrow is a slow NBA day and the recap will be much smaller). So, without further ado, let’s get back into it with the second half of this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for 12/16/09…

In the first game we have the Denver Nuggets (-8.5) hosting the Houston Rockets at the Pepsi Center. A game that was played with 15,753 fans attending it. For the Nuggets it’s rookie Ty Lawson, which from off the bench, gets 22 minutes of playing time. The point guard scored six points (3 for 8 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with six assists, three boards (all on the offensive side), a pair of steals and just one turnover. In the end, it was Denver taking this one by ten, defeating Houston 111 to 101. But the news is not all good for Lawson’s squad as they lose Billups to injury. With the victory the Nuggets are now 19 anf 7 for the `09-`10 season. The Denver Stiff have their recap of the game and so does Stephen Rhodes of Slam Dunk Central

Next game on tap is the one that has the Minnesota Timberwolves (-1.5) playing host to the Los Angeles Clippers. A game that was played at the Target Center with an attendance of 12,526 on hand. For the home team we have another rookie (and back court team mate of Ty Lawson), Wayne Ellington, who comes off the pine to play for 17 minutes in this one. While the minutes aren’t bad for the shooting guard, he only scores two points (1 for 2 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) and grabs one board in all. In a game where the gurus of the spread had it all wrong, it was Eric Gordon helping his team out as Los Angeles upsete Minnesota in a big way, with the final tally being 120 to 95. With the loss the TWolves fall to 4 and 22.

The second to last game of the night (and this recap) is the one that pins the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors (+5.5) together in a game played in front of 17,857 fans at the ORACLE Arena. For the Warriors we should be seeing Brandan Wright, but as we all know by now, the ex one and done forward is recovering from a shoulder injury. In the end it was San Antonio winning this one easily, taking down Golden State by a dozen, 103 to 91, edging the Spurs’ head coach close to his 700th NBA victory. With the loss the Warriors are now 11 games under .500, with a 7 and 18 record.

And we end with the head to head match up, as the Washington Wizards (+3) head to ARCO Arena to take on the Sacramento Kings with the place filled with 16,579 spectators. For the team from the nation’s capital we have the starting duo of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood. For the forward it’s another good night, getting 41 minutes in all and having a game high 30 points (11 for 22 ~ 0 for 6 ~ 8 for 8), while adding eight rebounds (half on the offensive glass) and one TO. (To be noted, in the last three games Jamison has scored 93 points). The big man gets 36 minutes, where he scores nine points (4 for 7 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 2), grabs 14 rebounds (6 offensive), has two assists and two blocks. On the other side it’s ex UNC big man Sean May, who does not see any action, but this time with a reason (DNP – Strained Right Hamstring). In the end, thanks to Evans & Casspi it is Sacramento defeating Washington by 3, the final score being 112 to 109. (Vegas was right on the money on this one as well). With the W the Kings are now close to .500 once again, with a 11 and 13 record, while the Wizs fall once again and are almost 10 games under .500, at 7 and 16 on the season. Over at Truth About It they have their recap in frames along with links about the game.
