(NBA) 12/14/09

To keep up with this post (as I do not want to play catch up with it anymore)  it is now time to look at the games from yesterday, Monday, December 14, 2009, where the NBA had seven games on tap. Of the seven all but one had a touch of carolina blue in them, one of those games being a head to head match up of teams with ex Carolina players on the roster. So, sit back and relax as you check out this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for 12/14/09…

The first game is the one that has ex Carolina players on both sides, as the Indiana Pacers travel to the sunshine state to take on the Orlando Magic at the Amway Arena in front of a crowd that numbered 17,461. For the visiting team we have rookie Tyler Hansbrough who comes off the bench for 24 minutes of playing time. For the ex NPOY and national champ it’s eight points (4 for 12 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0), six rebounds, three assists and a pair of turnovers. On the other side it’s Vince Carter, the starting shooting guard for the Magic, who plays 33 minutes in this one. The ex Dean Smith pupil has a very good night, scoring a game high 28 points (10 for 21 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 6 for 6) to go with seven rebounds and three assists. In the end it was Orlando beating Indiana by 8, with the final score being 106 to 98. With the W the Magic are now 18 and 6, while the loss slides the Pacers to 8 and 14. The Third Quarter Collapse has its recap, while the Indy Cornrows gives the Pacers’ point of view in their recap which they entitle Magic Zoom By Pacers At The Finish. At Slam Dunk Central we have Stephen Rhodes saying Superman Gets 20-20 Vision, Magic Trumps Pacers 106-98 about this game, while the NBA.com’s recap is entitled Howard overcomes physical play, powers Magic to win

The next game on tap has the Golden State Warriors traveling cross country and visiting the Wachovia Center to take on the Philadelphia 76′ers. As we all know the Warriors’ ex Heel, Brandan Wright, is out for a while recovering from an operation on his shoulder. As far as this game went it was Philadelphia winning it, defeating Golden State by 16, with the final tally being 117 to 101. With the loss the Warriors are now ten games under .500, with a record of 7 and 17. The recap from NBA.com talks about the Sixers ending their losing streak, which is also the same theme of the recap of Stephen Rhodes at Slam Dunk Central

The next game has the Boston Celtics going to the FedExForum to take on the Memphis Grizzlies in front of a crowd of 14,193. For the team from Bean Town we have ex UNC big man, Rasheed Wallace, coming off the bench and seeing 24 minutes in all. In that time frame Wallace scores 15 points (6 for 15 ~ 1 for 6 ~ 2 for 2), to go along with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. And just like the back up center, the whole team had a good game, as Boston got the victory over Memphis by 5, with the score being 110 to 105. With the W the Celtics become the first team in the NBA to reach 20 victories (20-4) on the season. Jeff Sack, my good friend at Slam Dunk Central, entitles his recap of the game Celtics Beat Those Memphis Blues With 110-105 Win Over Grizzlies!, while at NBA.com they focus on Allen’s 3-pointer helps Celtics extend winning streak to 11

The next game that we see is the one that has the Denver Nuggets hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder. This was played at the Pepsi Center in front of a crowd of 16,022. For the team from the mile high city it’s rookie Ty Lawson, who gets 15 minutes of action in all. The ex speedster from Chapel Hill scores 3 points in all (1 for 3 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 2) to go with four assists, one steal and a pair of turnovers. In the end it was Denver taking this one by 9, with the final score being 102 to 93. With the win the Nuggets are now 18 and 7 in the `09-`10 season. The Denver Stiff (SB Nation) entitle their recap Keeping a safe distance, while at NBA.com they say that Nuggets sloppy, but still have enough to top Thunder.

Moving onto the fifth game in this recap we see the Minnesota Timberwolves taking on the Utah Jazz at the EnergySolutions Arena in front of a crowd that was of 18,090. For the visiting squad we have another rookie taking the field, Wayne Ellington, who gets 12 minutes of action. For the ex national champ it’s a night with just three points (1 for 4 ~ 1 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) and nothing else. In the end that shot might have been the difference as Minnesota outlasted Utah by a duece, with the final tally being 110 to 108. With the W the TWolves are now 4 and 21 for the year. At NBA.com the recap is entitled Flynn’s shot secures Wolves’ upset win over Jazz

And we close this recap off with a game that I watched and was in a chat room discussing it. It’s the game between the Washington Wizards and the Los Angeles Clippers, played at the STAPLES Center in front of 14,511. For the team from the nation’s capital it’s the duo of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood, both starting and getting plenty of minutes on the night. For the ex NPOY it’s a double double night, scoring a game high 32 points (13 for 24 ~ 3 for 3 ~ 3 for 4) along with 11 rebounds (5 on the offensive glass), two assists, one steal and a trio of turnovers. For the ex UNC big man it’s even more time on the floor, 42 minutes in all, where he too has a double double, with 12 points (4 for 10 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 4 for 5) and the same amount of rebounds (he has seven on the offensive side), plus four blocks, an assist and a TO. In the end both ex Tar Heels might regret having missed a free throw a piece as Los Angeles won by a duece, with the final tally being 97 to 95. (To be honest the whole team might be sorry they couldn’t hold on to a 17 point lead in the game). With the loss the Wizs are now 7 and 15 for the season. At Truth About It, my first stop for anything Wizards, his recap is in picture frames, as well as having plenty of links about this loss. The NBA.com’s column says this about the game: Gordon helps Clips steal nail-biter vs. Wizards
