Here is the post about the ex Carolina players now in the National Basketball Association for the games that were played on Saturday, December 12, 2009. In all the NBA had eight games on tap, six of them had a touch of carolina blue, with two of them having players on both benches. (On a side note: with this post I am going to be caught up on this post and that means from tomorrow on the recaps will be about the games from the night before). So, without further ado, let’s get this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 12/12/09…
The first game is a clash of teams with ex Heels on them as the Indiana Pacers came to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center in front of a crowd of 13,172. For the visiting team we find power forward Tyler Hansbrough, who comes off the bench for the Pacers and plays for 25 minutes, scoring 19 points (7 for 14 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 5 for 6) to go with three rebounds and a steal. On the other side we have forward Antawn Jamison and center Brendan Haywood, both starting for their Wizards team. Jamison getting 45 minutes in all, where he score a game high 31 points (13 for 18 ~ 4 for 6 ~ 1 for 5) to go with seven boards, three steals and four TOs. For the big man it was a 35 minutes night, where he had six points (2 for 5 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2) to go along with nine rebounds (four on the offensive side), five blocks, one assist, a steal and a turnover. In a game that was decided by one point it was Indiana notching the win, defeating Washington by the final of 114 to 113. With the W the Pacers are now 8 and 13, while the loss puts the Wizs at 7 and 14 on the season. The Truth About It, my first place for anything Wizards, has the recap with a very good title: Wizards File Patent On ‘Ways To Lose’ Invention. For the other side Indy Cornrows says Whirlwind Finish Ends As Mike Dunleavy’s Free Throws Ice Victory of the game between the Wizards and the Pacers.
The next game on tap has the Golden State Warriors coming from the west coast to The Palace of Auburn Hills to take on the Detroit Pistons in a game that had 16,952 fans in attendance. We know that the only ex Heel in this game would be Brandan Wright, but we also know that the ex one and done for Roy Williams didn’t take to the field has he is still rehabbing a shoulder injury. As far as the game is concerned it is the home team winning this one as Detroit took down Golden State by 9, with the final tally being 104 to 94. With the loss the Warriors are now 7 and 16 on the season. For the recap of the game I go to my good friend Nat, who runs Need4Sheed, who tells us A win over the Warriors makes it five straight for The Pistons
Moving forward we now have the game between the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls, in a game that was played in front of 21,257 fans at the United Center. For the visiting squad we have Rasheed Wallace getting 22 minutes off the pine, and making the most of them. The ex UNC big man scored 15 points in all (5 for 12 ~ 1 for 5 ~ 4 for 4) , as well as five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. In a game which was pretty much over after three quarters, it was Boston defeating Chicago by 26, with the final score being 106 to 80. With the win the Celtics are now 19 and 4 on the season. The CelticsBlog calls it recap of the game Rondo the (Bulls) Destroyer
The next match, one between the Charlotte Bobcats and the Dallas Mavericks, played at the American Airlines Center with 20,151 fans in the arena to watch it. For the visiting squad from the east coast we have Raymond Felton, who starts at point guard and gets 46 minutes in all for his head coach, another Tar Heel, Larry Brown. In that time frame the ex speedster from Chapel Hill scores 20 points (8 for 16 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 2 for 2) and had eight asssits, four rebounds, a steal, a block and a pair of turnovers in all. In what was a very close game that went into overtime, it would be Dallas defeating Charlotte by 1, with the final score being 98 to 97. With the loss the Bobcats slide to a 9 and 13 record on the season. Rufus on Fire has the recap of the game between the Bobcats and the Mavs.
In the next game we have the Denver Nuggets hosting the Phoenix Suns at the Pepsi Center at a game with 19,155 in the seats. For the home team we see rookie point guard Ty Lawson, who does not get much time in all, only playing 12 minutes in this one. In that time the ex speedster gets 2 points (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2) to go with one rebound, one assist, one steal and a pair of TOs. In the end it was Denver taking down Phoenix by 6, final score being 105 to 99. With the victory the Nuggets are now 17 and 7 for the `09-`10 season. Over at the Denver Stiffs Andrew Feinstein recaps the game by saying A tale of two halves….
And as we close off this post it’s another head to head match up with ex Tar Heels on both squads. In this game we have the Minnesota Timberwolves heading to the ARCO Arena to take on the Sacramento Kings in front of a crowd of 11,333. For the visiting team we have Wayne Ellington getting 26 minutes, scoring seven points (3 for 8 ~ 1 for 3 ~ 0 for ), to go with one rebound and two turnovers. On the other side we have ex UNC big man Sean May, who for the first time in a long while gets some playing time. In all the power forward gets six minutes, scoring four points (2 for 4 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0), to go with one rebound on the night. In the end, in a game that was not much of a contest, Sacramento beats Minnesota by 20, with the final being 120 to 100. With the W SacTown is now 10 and 12, while the loss puts Minny at 3 and 21 on the year.
