Still in full catch up mode here is the recap of the ex UNC players in the National Basketball Association for Thursday, December 10, 2009. On a night where the schedule had only three games all of them had a touch of carolina blue, with one of them even having players from Chapel Hill on both benches. So, without further ado, here is the recap, that I call “Heels in the League” (NBA),  from the games that were played on 12/10/09…

The first one has the Denver Nuggets traveling to The Palace of Auburn Hills to take on the Detroit Pistons in front of a crowd that counted 17,176 fans in the stand. For the visiting team from the mile high city it’s rookie Ty Lawson, who comes off the bench in this one for 15 minutes. The ex speedster from Chapel Hill does not score in this game (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0), but gets four assists, three rebounds, a steal and three turnovers. In a very close game, with Lawson’s team having a good 4th quarter, it’s still Detroit taking the win, beating Denver by the final score of 101 to 99. With the loss the Nuggets fall to 16 and 7 on the season. The Denver Stiffs say this about the game: The Curse of Auburn Hills…, while my friend Nat of Need4Shed entitles her recap of this game A Detroit/Denver Thriller. I didn’t see the game, but from what I read it did sound like a thriller to me as well.

The second game of the night is the one that has a head to head match up between teams that have ex UNC players on their rosters. It’s the Boston Celtics going south to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards, in a game that was played at the Verizon Center in front of 20,173 fans. For the visiting team we have ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace, who as always comes off the bench for the Celtics, this time playing 19 minutes. The ex pupil of Dean Smith scores four points (0 for 2 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 4 for 4) to go with five rebounds and a block. On the other side we have the duo of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood, both starting for the Wizards. The forward gets 36 minutes in all, scoring 16 points (7 for 14 ~ 2 for 5 ~ 0 for 1), along with eight boards, a steal and a TO. For the center, it’s 35 minutes, with 17 points (7 for 7 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 3 for 4), to go with eight rebounds, a steal, a block and four turnovers. In another game that was decided by a bucket, it was the visiting team winning this one as Boston defeated Washington by the final of 104 to 102, in a game where Ray Allen scores his 20,000th career point. With the W the Celtics are now 18 and 4, while the loss slides the Wizs to 7 and 13 on the year. At the Truth About It the recap of the game is entitled Inconsistency Is A Muther, while Jeff Sack (Slam Dunk Central) say that it was Rapid-Rajon Leads Celtics To Ninth Straight Win.

And finally, in the last game of this recap, it’s Orlando Magic going to EnergySolutions Arena to take on the Utah Jazz, in front of a crowd that counted 18,735. For the visiting team we have shooting guard Vince Carter, who once again starts for the Magic and gets 38 minutes in all. The ex Heel scored 34 points in this one (9 for 23 ~ 5 for 11 ~ 11 for 12), to go with six rebounds and a trio of assists. In what was the only game of the night that was not decided by 2 points, it was Utah defeating Orlando by 9, with the final score being 120 to 111. With the loss the Magic slide to 17 and 5 on the season. Over at Slam Dunk Central Stephen Rhodes entitles the recap 38-Point Third Quarter Helps Jazz Beat Magic 120-111, while the Orland blog, the Third Quarter Collapse, has its usual very good recap of the game.
