(NBA) 12/04/09

As we continue to try and catch up on this (not so) daily post of mine, here is the first half of the recap from the games of Friday, December 4, 2009, where in all the National Basketball Association had ten games. Of those ten games, seven of them had teams with ex Carolina players in them, meaning that it would be too long to do just one post about all the games. So I am going to do four games in this one and then another post (later on in the afternoon or tonight) with the other three games. So, sit back and relax as we go through the first half of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 12/04/09…

The first game of the night is between the Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards, played at Verizon Center in front of a crowd of 20,173. For the team from the nation’s capital there are two ex Tar Heels on the roster, Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood, both starting for the Wizs and both getting major minutes. Jamison, who got 36 minutes in this game, scores 13 points (4 for 16 ~ 1 for 7 ~ 4 for 6) to go with eight rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. While Haywood, who played 41 minutes, scored seven points (1 for 7 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 5 for 8) along with 16 rebounds (seven offensive), five blocks and a TO. In the end, with the game going into overtime, it was Toronto winning a squeaker, defeating Washington by a duece, with the final score being 109 to 107. The loss send the Wizards to 7 and 11 on the season. My main source for Wizards news, the Truth About it, has the locker room quotes on their site,

The next game on tap is the one between the New York Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks, played at Philips Arena in front of a crowd of 17,165. For the home squad we see ex Heel forward Marvin Williams, who starts at small forward and gets 39 minutes in all. The ex national champ under Roy Williams scores 20 points (7 for 17 ~ 2 for 6 ~ 4 for 5) to go with six rebounds (4 offensive), two assists, a steal and a TO. In the end, even with a good showing by Williams, it’s New York taking this one, defeating Atlanta 114 to 107. With the L the Hawks slide to 13 and 6 on the year. Over at my favorite site for Atlanta, Peachtree Hoops, they have their recap of the game, which is entitled Where the Hawks prove reason has no place in the NBA.

As we move to the third game of this post it’s the Minnesota Timberwolves going to the big easy to take on the New Orleans Hornets at the New Orleans Arena in front of 14,720. For the visiting TWolves we have rookie shooting guard Wayne Ellington getting the most ever minutes of his young NBA career, 31. The ex national champ from a season ago scores 12 points (5 for 7 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 1 for 2) to go with three assists, two steals, a rebound and a pair of turnovers. In the end, as has been the case for most of the year, the TWolves go down as New Orleans defeats Minnesota by 9, with the final tally being 98 to 89. The loss drops the Timberwolves to 2 and 17 on the season.

And the final game from this first half it’s the Cleveland Cavaliers hosting the Chicago Bulls at the Q (Quicken Loans Arena), in front of a crowd of 20,562 fans. For the Cavs we have the duo of Jawad Williams and Danny Green, and once again Williams does not even get dressed for the game and Green just gets five minutes in all. In that time the rookie and national champion scores 2 points in the game (0 for 2 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 2 for 2) as well as one rebound in this game. As far as the game went, it’s Cleveland winning this one by 14 points, taking down Chicago by the final of 101 to 87. With th victory the Cavs are now 14 and 5 on the year. There has been plenty said about the fact that LBJ and Green were dancing and Noah took exception to that. My take on all of this is simple: I could see how Noah might be annoyed, but they are all pro’s, making tons of money, if all could let it go it would be best!
