Heels in the League (NBA) 11/28/09
Still trying to catch up on what I feels is an impossible mission (lol), here is the recap from the games from Saturday, November 28, 2009. On this day the National Basketball Association had five game on tap, four of them had a touch of carolina blue, one of them with players from Chapel Hill on both benches, in all seven ex UNC players in action. (Hopefully I will be able to do this post as well as the one from 11/29/09 and maybe 11/30/09 and be close to caught up). But for now enjoy this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for 11/28/09…
The first game is the one that has a touch of carolina blue on both benches, as the Charlotte Bobcats take the short trip up I95 to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards. The game was played in front of 17,311 fans at the Verizon Center. For the visiting team it’s speedster Raymond Felton, who registers 31 minutes, scoring 12 points (4 for 8 ~ 1 for 1 ~ 3 for 4) to go along with five assists, four steals and a rebound. While for the Wizs we have the starting duo of forward Antawn Jamison and center Brendan Haywood. For the first one it’s 27 minutes, scoring just six points (2 for 9 ~ 1 for 6 ~ 1 for 2) to along with one steal, one assist and 3 TOs. While the big man was close to a double double in his 26 minutes. Haywood scored 10 points (4 for 6 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2), nine rebounds, an assist and a block. In the end it would be Charlotte defeating Washington by the final of 92 to 76. With the W the Bobcats are now 7 and 9, while the loss puts the Wizs at 5 and 10 on the year. Over at Truth About It they have their usual great recap of the game.
In the second game of the night it’s the Dallas Mavericks taking a visit to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena (or the Q) in a game that was played in front of 20,562 spectators. For the home team we have another pair of Heels, with Jawad Williams and Danny Green being on the Cavs’ roster. Once again these two ex UNC players do not see much action in this one, with Green not even dressing for the game, while Williams plays 2 minutes in all getting nothing on the boxscore. In the end this game was won by Cleveland over Dallas by the final tally of 111 to 95. With the win the Cavs are now 12 and 5 on the season. Cavs: The Blog has their recap of the game between the Mavs and the Cavs.
The next game has the Orlando Magic and the Milwaukee Bucks going at it at the Bradley Center in front of 16,128 fans. For the Magic it’s Vince Carter getting 35 minutes in this one, scoring 25 points (10 for 23 ~ 1 for 4 ~ 4 for 5), getting six rebounds, two assists and three turnovers. The game, which was very close, it was Orlando beating MIlwaukee by a duece, with the final score being 100 to 98. With the victory the Magic are now 13 and 4 on the season.
And finally, in the fourth game of the night, it’s a California match up as the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors go at it in the ORACLE Arena in front of 20,001 spectators. For the home team we should be seeing Brandan Wright, but the ex UNC forward is on the sideline for quite a while as he heals his shoulder. In the end this was not much of a contest as Los Angeles tears apart Golden State by 33 points, with the final tally being 130 to 97. With the loss the Warriors are now 5 and 10 on the year.
