Heels in the League (NBA) 11/27/09 (Part 1)
As I try to updated on my (not so) daily post about Carolina players in the National Basketball Association I am going to do the games from Friday, November 27, 2009. The post, which as we all know is called “Heels in the League” (NBA), is going to be divided into two since there are eight games involving players from Chapel Hill. I am going to try to get the second half and the post out by later this afternoon and hopefully get the one from 11/28/09 as well (but with MSU/UNC looming large tonight I am not going to promise more than that). For now enjoy this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 11/27/09…
In the first game it’s the Washington Wizards going down to the sunshine state to take on the Miami Heat at the AmericanAirlines Arena in front of 17,684 fans. For the squad from the nation’s capital it’s the tandem of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood, both starting this game. Jamison gets 42 minutes and registers a double double with 24 points (11 for 20 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 0 for 2) and 13 rebounds. The ex NPOY also had one assist, one block and a turnover on the night. Haywood, who played 31 minutes, had six points (2 for 5 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 4) to go with seven boards, two steals, a block and a pair of TOs. In the end it was Washington beating Miami by 10, with the final tally being 94 to 84. With the W the Wizs are now 5 and 9 on the season. Truth About It has his Notes from the Couch about the game.
In the second of the night it’s the Atlanta Hawks heading to the Wachovia Center to take on the Philadelphia 76′ers in front of 12,984 fans. For the Hawks we have ex national champ Marvin Williams, who starts and plays for 31 minutes but does not score much, while getting it done in other things. The forward scores four points (1 for 4 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 2 for 2) to go with nine rebounds, two steal and turns the ball over once. When it was all said and done it would be Atlanta defeating Philadelphia by double digits, with the final score being 100 to 86. With the victory the Hawks are now 12 and 4.
Third game of this evening provides us a head to head match up between teams that have ex Heels on them. It’s the Cleveland Cavaliers heading east to Time Warner Cable Arena to take on the Charlotte Bobcats in front of a crowd of 19,168. For the visiting team it’s the duo of Jawad Williams and Danny Green, with the first one not dressing for the game, and the second getting a couple of minutes of playing time. In that small period Green does score 2 points (1 for 2 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with 2 boards. On the other side of the ball it’s speedster Raymond Felton, starting for the Bobcats at the point guard position. Felton gets 36 minutes, scoring eight points (4 for 11 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and a TO. In the end, in a big surprise, it’s Charlotte defeating Cleveland by the final score of 94 to 87 for their third win in a row. With the W the Bobcats go to 6 and 9, while the loss puts the Cavs to a record of 11 and 5 on the year. Rufus on Fire has the recap of the game on their site.
Last game of this post is the one between the Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics, in a game played at the TD Garden in front of 18,624 fans. For the home team we have ex pupil of Dean Smith Rasheed Wallace, who comes off the bench for 23 minutes, scoring 15 points (6 for 11 ~ 3 for 6 ~ 0 for 0) to go with four steals, two rebounds, an assist, a block and a TO. In the end the game went to the home team, as Boston defeated Toronto by a baker’s dozen, with the final being 116 to 103. With the win the Celtics are now 12 and 4 on the season. CelticsBlog has their recap of the game, entitled Balanced attack leads Celtics to victory over Raptors .
