(NBA) 11/25/09

In the second half of the post for the games from Wednesday, November 25, 2009 (you can find the first half of this post here) there are another four games with a touch of carolina blue in them. One of them has ex Carolina players on each bench, while another has a team with a duo of ex Tar Heels on it (which unfortunately are not being played much). So, sit back and relax as you read this “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 11/25/09…

The first game as the Cleveland Cavaliers heading to The Palace of Auburn Hills to take on the Detroit Pistons in front of 22,076 fans. For the visiting team we have a pair of players from Chapel Hill, Jawad Williams and Danny Green. And as usual neither of them get to see any game time in this game, something that has been the case for most of this year as well as for last season when it comes to Williams. The game itself was a decent one that Cleveland took from Detroit by 10, with the final score being 98 to 88. With the victory the Cavs are now 11 and 4 on the season. At Need4Sheed here is Natalie’s recap of the game.

In the second game we go from two ex Tar Heels on one bench to two teams with ex Heels on them as the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves battle it out at Target Center in front of 13,101 fans. Not only is this a reunion of two ex UNC players, but one that puts the starting backcourt from last year’s national championship, with Ty Lawson now playing for the Nuggets and Wayne Ellington on the TWolves’ roster. For the point guard it’s a good night with 23 minutes logged in, while scoring 8 points (3 for 9 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 1 for 3) to go with six assists, five boards, a block and a couple of turnovers. On the other side the shooting guard does not get that much time, as Ellington just plays 3 minutes in all. In that time frame he does not score (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) and registers two turnovers. As far as the game is concerned it’s Denver beating Minnesota by double digits, with the final tally being 124 to 111. With the W the Nuggets are now 11 and 4, while the loss pushes the TWolves down to 1 and 14. Nate Timmons of the Denver Stiffs calls his recap Denver adds injury to insult…kicks pups. On a side note, here is a small story from the StarTribune.com that talks about the possibility of Ellington going down to the NBDL.

The third game is the one between the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs, played in front of 17,600 spectators at the AT&T Center. For the visiting team their touch of carolina blue, forward Brendan Wright, is out for a long time due to a shoulder injury. As I do with all the Heels, let me wish him the best and fastest recovery so that we can all see him back on the court soon enough. As far as the game is concerned it was San Antonio taking this one pretty easily, beating Golden State 118 to 104. With the loss the Warriors are now 5 and 9 on the year.

And for the last game on the night it’s the New York Knicks heading cross country to take on the Sacramento Kings at ARCO Arena in front of 11,375 fans. For the home team we have ex UNC big man and national champion Sean May, who, like most of the players in this recap, does not get to see the floor in this one (DNP – Coach’s Decision). In the end it was Sacramento beating New York by the final of 111 to 97. With the win the Kings are no 6 and 8 on the season.
