Heels in the League (NBA) 11/25/09 (Part 1)
We are now up to the recap from the games of Wednesday, November 25, 2009. which due to it’s length (eight games in all) will be split in two. On this night there were 12 games altogether, one of the bigger nights in the NBA in the past week. Out of the eight games that have a touch of carolina blue there is only one game with players from Chapel Hill. So, sit back and relax as I go through “Heels in the League” (NBA) for first four games from 11/25/09…
First game of this post it’s the Los Angeles Clippers heading to Conseco Fieldhouse to take on the Indiana Pacers in front of 12,350 fans. For the home team it’s Tyler Hansbrough, who gets 12 minutes on a night where his shooting was not so good. The rookie from UNC had just two points (1 for 7 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with six rebounds (and a TO). As far as the game is concerned it’s a low scoring affair with Indiana defeating Los Angeles by double digits, with the final score being 86 to 73. The win brings the Pacers to a 6 and 7 record on the year. At Indy Cornrows they have their recap of the game. While at Slam Dunk Central Stephen Rhodes has his recap of the game, entitled Murphy’s Double-Double Helps Pacers Sink Clippers 86-73.
The next game on tap is the Toronto Raptors going to Time Warner Cable Arena to take on the Charlotte Bobcats in front of 13,689 fans. For the home team it’s ex Carolina speedster Raymond Felton, who gets 27 minutes starting at the point guard position. In that time frame the ex national champ scores 10 points (5 for 10 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with four assists, three rebounds and three steals. As far as the game went it was pretty much a lopsided affair with Charlotte dominating Toronto, the final score being 116 to 81. With the W the Bobcats are now 5 and 9 on the year. Queen City Hoops has their recap between the Raptors and the Bobcats.
The third game on tap has the Philadelphia 76′ers going to beantown to take on the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden in front of 18,624 fans. For the home squad it’s UNC big man Rasheed Wallace, who gets 21 minutes coming off the bench. In that time the ex pupil of Dean Smith scores eight points (2 for 7 ~ 2 for 6 ~ 2 for 4), grabs four rebounds and turns the ball over twice in the game. In a high scoring game, the home team comes from behind in the fourth quarter, as Boston outlasts Philadelphia by the final of 113 to 110. The win puts the Celtics at 11 and 4 for the season. Zach Lowe of the Celtics Hub entitles his recap Is the “Flip the Switch” Cliche True?
Last game for this first half is the one that puts two teams from the sunshine state with the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic playing at the Amway Arena in front of 17,461 fans. For the Magic we have Vince Carter, who starts at the shooting guard and gets 34 minutes in all. The ex Heel scores 22 points (8 for 19 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 4 for 6) to go with six rebounds, three assists and a block.
