On a day that we all should be thankful I am as well as I sit next to my wife and watch television (football – yay) while she sleeps due to the meds she is taking. Since I am still way behind on this (not so) daily post of mine I figured I use this time (in between her naps) to try and catch up on some of the action involving ex UNC players in the NBA. Which means it’s time for “Heels in the League” (NBA) for Sunday, November 22, 2009, where there are three games with a touch of carolina blue, including one with ex Heels on both benches. I hope to get 2-3 of these done today, along with other things related to North Carolina, but that is all up to how much time my wife stays awake. But for now, enjoy your turkey and this post about the games from 11/22/09…
First game of the day has the Orlando Magic going north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre in front of 17,233 fans in attendance. For the team from the sunshine state it’s ex Heel Vince Carter, who starts at the shooting guard and gets 36 minutes in all. In that time frame the newly acquired guard scored 24 points (9 for 24 ~ 0 for 5 ~ 6 for 6) to go with eight rebounds, two assists and a TO. As far as the the game is concerned it’s the visiting team winning this one, as Orlando beats Toronto by eight, with the final score being 104 to 96. With the win the Magic are now 11 and 3 on the season. The SBNation blog, Third Quarter Collapse, has their recap of their game, with a nice picture of Vince Carter.
The second game of the night is the one between the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks, played at Madison Square Garden in front of 19,763 fans. For the visiting squad it’s ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace, who gets 15 minutes and has a bad shooting night, scoring no points (0 for 6 ~ – for 3 ~ 0 for 0). The newly acquired center did however have four rebounds, four steals and an assist on the night. In a game that went into OT and was very close til the end, Boston beats New York by a duece, with the final score being 107 to 105. With the win the Celtics are now in double figure wins, at 10 and 4 for the year. Jeff Sack, from Slam Dunk Central, has the recap of the game, which he entitled Celtics Out Last Knicks in Over Time Thriller At MSG 107-105! I didn’t see the game, but from what Jeff outlines it sounds like it was a heck of a game.
The last game for the evening has ex players from Chapel Hill on both rosters. It’s the Indiana Pacers heading east to take on the Charlotte Bobcats at the Time Warner Cable Arena in front of 14,730 fans. For the visiting squad, it’s rookie Tyler Hansbrough, coming off the bench for 21 minutes and scoring eight points (2 for 4 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 4 for 4). The ex NPOY and national champion (`09) also had six rebounds, an assist and a turnover. On the other side, for the Bobcats, it’s speedster Raymond Felton, who starts at the point guard slot and scores eight points in 29 minutes. The ex national champ from `05 also had six assists and five rebounds in this game. In what was not a close game it’s Charlotte beating Indiana by 16, with the final tally being 104 to 88. With the W the Bobcats go to 4 and 9, while the loss pushes the Pacers below .500, at 5 and 6. Indy Cornrows, an SB Nation blog, titles its recap Pacers Start Streaking The Wrong Way , while Stephen Rhodes of Slam Dunk Central says Bobcats Snap 7-Game Losing Streak.
