Heels in the League (NBA) 11/21/09
Once again I am way behind on this (not so) daily post which I call “Heels in the League” (NBA), and for those that know what is going on with my family know why. However, let me try to catch up by doing a couple of days this morning and the rest this afternoon/evening. This post is about the games from Saturday, November 21, 2009, where there are nine games on tap and six of them have a touch of carolina blue in them. So, without any further interruptions, let’s get going with the recap from 11/21/09…
The first game of the night is the one that has the Philadelphia 76′ers going to the Q to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in front of 20,562 fans. For the home team it’s the tandem of national champs, Jawad Williams and Danny Green, who both dress up for the game but once again do not see any action in this one (DNP – Coach’s Decision). As far as the game is concerned it’s Cleveland taking this one, beating Philadelphia by 6, with the final tally being 97 to 91. With the win the Cavs reach double figure wins at 10 and 4. Jeff Sack, of Slam Dunk Central, give his recap of the game.
The next game with a touch of carolina blue it the Atlanta Hawks heading to the ‘Big Easy” to take on the New Orleans Hornets in front of a crowd of 15,933 at the New Orleans Arena. For the visiting Hawks we have Marvin Williams, who starts at the small forward slot and gets 35 minutes. The ex Heel and national champ scores 17 points (8 for 16 ~ 1 for 5 ~ 0 for 0) to go with six rebounds, two blocks, a steal and two turnovers. In the end it’s the home squad winning this one as New Orleans beats Atlantat by the final of 96 to 88. With the loss the Hawks are now 11 and 3 on the season. Over at Peachtree Hoops they have their recap entitled three pointers are worth a lot of points.
The third game of the night is the one that has the Sacramento Kings going to the Toyota Center to take on the Houston Rockets in front of 16,202 fans. For the Kings it’s ex UNC big man Sean May, who once again dresses for his team but does not see any action (DNP – Coach’s Decision). When it was all said and done this one went to Houston, as they defeated Sacramento by the final tally of 113 to 106. With the loss the Kings slide deeper under .500, with their season record now being 5 and 7.
Moving on we now have the game matching up the Washington Wizards and the San Antonio Spurs. The game was played at the AT&T Center in front of 16,888 fans. For the team from the nation’s capital we have two ex Tar Heels playing, Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood. The forward and ex NPOY got 32 minutes at the power forward spot, scoring 15 points (4 for 12 ~ 2 for 6 ~ 5 for 9) to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. While the ex UNC big man plays 23 minutes in all, scoring five points (2 for 4 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 2) as well as eight boards, a block and a TO. In the end this game was not even close, as San Antonio tears up Washington by 22 points, with the final score being 106 to 84. The loss puts the Wizs at 3 and 9 for the year. At Truth About It they have their game recap done by pictures which they entitled Spurs Boot Wizards In 12 Frames.
The second to last game from this evening’s slate is the one that has the Chicago Bulls heading to the mile high city to take on the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center in front of 19,359 fans. For the home team we see rookie point guard Ty Lawson, who gets 22 minutes off the bench, scoring nine (3 for 5 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 3 for 4) to go with three assists and a block. In another game that was not very close, with a 35 to 22 4th quarter, Denver came out with this one, beating Chicago by the final score of 112 to 93. With the W the Nuggets go to 9 and 4 on the season.
Finally, the last game with a touch of carolina blue in it for today, it’s the Minnesota Timberwolves going to the Rose Garden and taking on the Portland Trail Blazers in front of 20,453 fans. For the visiting TWolves it’s rookie shooting guard Wayne Ellington, who gets very little playing time in this one. The ex national champ under Roy Williams saw just four minutes and didn’t score any points (0 for 2 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) nor record anything on the box score. And once again another one sided game has Portland this one going away, destroying Minnesota by 28 points, 106 to 78. With the loss the TWolves are now 1 and 12 for this year.
