As I try to get back in a normal rhythm (and for those of you that know the story I won’t bother to explain it again) and get this (not so) daily post, which I call “Heels in the League” (NBA), close to being up to date, let me say that I am trying my hardest, but real life has gotten in the way somewhat. This post is about the games from Saturday, November 7, 2009, where there are seven games in all, four of them having a touch of carolina blue. (With the next couple of days all being between 6 and 8 games I am hoping to be able to do them quickly and getting this post close to par by tomorrow and getting even before the end of the weekend). For now, check out the games from 11/07/09…
In the first game it’s a head to head battle of ex UNC players as the Denver Nuggets head to the east coast to take on the Atlanta Hawks at the Philips Arena in front of 17,801 fans. For the visiting Nuggets we have point guard Ty Lawson, who gets 27 minutes in the game, scoring 10 points ( 3 for 7 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 4 for 4), dishing out five assists, grabbing a board (and turning the ball over three times). The home team’s touch of carolina blue is with small forward Marvin Williams, who starts and plays for 23 minutes in all. The ex Heel and national champ scores 14 points (4 for 6 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 6 for 6), gets 2 boards, has an assist and a steal. In the end the game is not close as Atlanta destroys Denver by 25 points, with the final tally being 125 to 100. With the Hawks win and Nuggets loss both teams are now 5 and 2 to begin the season. Over at Peachtree Hoops there is the recap of the game.
The next game of the night is the one between the Boston Celtics and the New Jersey Nets, which was played in front of 16,119 fans at the IZOD Center. For the visiting squad it’s ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace, who gets 24 minutes off the bench. In that time span the ex pupil of Dean Smith scored nine points (3 for 10 ~ 0 for 4 ~ 3 for 3) to go along with four rebounds, four steals and a block (plus a turnover). In the end, in a real low scoring affair it is Boston winning the game, taking down New Jersey by ten, with the final score being 86 to 76. With the win the Celtics continue on their winning streak and are now 7 and 1 on the young season.
The next game with a touch of carolina blue is the one that sends the Charlotte Bobcats to the windy city to take on the Chicago Bulls at the United Center in front of 21,108 fans. For the Bobcats it’s speedster Raymond Felton, who starts at the point and plays for 37 minutes in all. The ex Heel and national champ gets a double double on the night, scoring 14 points (5 for 17 ~ 1 for 3 ~ 3 for 4) to go along with 10 assists, two rebounds, two steals and just one turnover. Unfortunately all of that was just not enough as Chicago wins a tight one, outlasting Charlotte 93 to 90. With the loss the Bobcats are now at .500 on the season, with a 3 and 3 record.
The last game of the night is the one that puts the Sacramento Kings versus the Utah Jazz. The game is played at the EnergySolutions Arena in front of 18,825 fans. For the Kings it’s power forward Sean May, who comes off the bench for 11 minutes of playing time. In that time the ex big man for Roy Williams scores just two points (1 for 3 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with two rebounds and one turnover. In a pretty tight game it is Sacramento to pull this one out, defeating Utah by the final of 104 to 99. With the win the Kings are now 2 and 4 on the season.
