And once again we work on trying to catch up with this (way not so) daily post called “Heels in the League” (NBA). This post is going to be part one of the games from Friday, November 6, 2009, where in all there were 13 games, of which many featured ex players from Chapel Hill, including the first game ever in the National Basketball Association for Tyler Hansbrough. So without further ado, let’s get going with the game from 11/06/09…

The first one is the one between the Washington Wizards and the Indiana Pacers, in a game where both sides have a touch of carolina blue. The game was played in front of a crowd of 14,556 at Conseco Fieldhouse. For the visiting Wizards it’s the tandem of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood, while the first one is still out with an injury, the latter played in this game. The ex big man from Chapel Hill got 36 minutes as the starting center, coming close to a double double by scoring nine points (4 for 9 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 3), grabbing 19 rebounds (8 offensive), getting four blocks and a steal. On the other side is the first game for Tyler Hansbrough, who plays 14 minutes coming off the bench. In that time frame the ex pupil of Roy Williams scores 13 points (3 for 7 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 7 for 10), to go along with five rebounds and an assist. In the end, it was Indiana beating Washington by the final tally of 102 to 86. With the win the Pacers are now 2 and 3, while the loss slides Washington to 2 and 4. The Wizs’ blog, Truth About It, has the recap which is entitled Pacers Vroom Past Gasless Wizards, while Always Miller Time (Fansided) talks about The Pacers winning 2nd in a row.

The second game of this very big night in the NBA is the one between the Detroit Pistons against the Orlando Magic, played at the Amway Arena in front of 17,461 fans. For the home team we should see shooting guard Vince Carter but due to an injury he does not see the floor in this game. As far as the game is concerned it’s Orlando taking this one, defeating Detroit by the final score of 110 to 103. With the victory the Magic are now 5 and 1 on the season. The next game with a touch of carolina blue is the one that involves two teams with ex Heels on their rosters, with the Atlanta Hawks going north on I-95 to play the Charlotte Bobcats at the Time Warner Cable Arena in front of 15,874 fans. For the Hawks it’s ex national champ Marvin Williams, who starts at the small forward and gets 30 minutes in all. The ex pupil of Roy Williams scores nine points (3 for 8 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 3 for 4) to going along with five rebounds, three blocks and a steal. On the other side of the ball, it’s one of Williams’ ex team mates at UNC, Raymond Felton, starting at point guard and playing for 24 minutes. The speedster scored seven points (3 for 9 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 0 for 0), got seven assists, three boards and turned over the ball twice. As far as the game, it was a blow out of sorts with Charlotte winning this one by 20 points, hammering Atlanta by the final of 103 to 83. With the win the Bobcats go to 3 and 2, while the loss takes the Hawks to 4 and 2.

The last game for this first part of the games from 11/06/09 is the one with the Phoenix Suns going east to take on the Boston Celtics, in a game played in front of 18,624 fans at the TD Garden. For the Celtics it’s ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace getting 24 minutes off the bench, where he scored eight points (4 for 12 ~ 0 for 6 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with five rebounds, one assist and one steal. When it was all said and done it would be Phoenix taking the game, giving Boston their first loss of the season, with the final being 110 to 103. With the loss the Celtics are now 6 and 1.
