Heels in the League (NBA) 11/01/09
In the first game of the night it’s the Orlando Magic going north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors in a game that was played at Air Canada Centre in front of 18,147 fans. For the team from the sunshine state Vince Carter should have played, but a left ankle injury substained the game before kept the ex pupil of Dean Smith out of the game. As far as the game went it was Orlando defeating Toronto by the final of 125 to 116. With the win the Magic are still undefeated on the season at 3 and 0. Nat of Heels on Hardwood has a small recap, but if a picture says a 1,000 words, it’s one of the biggest recaps I have ever seen for a game in the NBA. And at the Orland Magic Daily, part of the TrueHoop Network, they have their recap entitled Short-handed Orlando Magic topple Toronto Raptors. Not a bad title if I do say so myself!
The next game on the slate for this evening is the one between the New Orleans Hornets and the Boston Celtics. The game was played at TD Garden in front of 18,624 fans. For the home squad it’s newly acquired Rasheed Wallace giving them a touch of carolina blue. The ex pupil of Dean Smith gets 18 minutes off the bench, where he scores 12 points (5 for 10 ~ 2 for 5 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two turnovers. With a fourth quarter surge it’s Boston taking this one, beating New Orleans by the final tally of 97 to 87. With the win the Celtics stay undefeated at 4 and 0. The Celtics Hub (TrueHoop Network) has their recap of the game, while over at Slam Dunk Central Jeff Sacks talks about The Celtics Swatting Down Hornets 97-87; Start Out Season 4-0
The third game (of the five) with a touch of carolina blue is the one that has the Memphis Grizzlies going to the mile high city to take on the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center in front of 15,823 fans. For the home squad it’s ex Heel, national champ and rookie point guard Ty Lawson, who is doing very well to begin his NBA career. The speedster gets 22 minutes in this game, scoring eight points (3 for 8 ~ 2 for 3 ~ 0 for 0) to go with three assists, one steal, one rebound and a turnover. As far as the game went, it was Denver taking the match, defeating Memphis by 10, with the final tally being 133 to 123. The Nuggets go to 3 and 0 with the win. The Roundball Mining Company, a TrueHoop Network blog, has a nice recap, while at SB Nation, Denver Stiffs, has its piece on the game entitled Melo’s magnum opus continues…
Next game that has an ex Heel in action is the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Phoenix Suns. A game played in Arizona, at the US Airways Center, in front of 15,376 fans. For the visiting squad, it’s shooting guard Wayne Ellington, to give them a touch of carolina blue. The ex national champion and rookie gets 26 minutes in the game, scoring seven points (3 for 8 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 0 for 0) and adding three steals, two assists and a rebound. As far as the game is concerned, it was Phoenix winning the game, beating Minnesota by the final of 120 to 112. With the defeat the TWolves are below .500, with a record of 1 and 2. At SB Nation, Canis Hoopus has its recap entitled Questions and stories begin to take shape.
The last game on tap for this evening is the one that is a East vs West match up as the Atlanta Hawks head cross country to the STAPLES Center to take on the Los Angeles Lakers in front of 18,997 fans. For the Hawks, it’s Marvin Williams starting at the small forward spot and getting 24 minutes in all. In that time the ex national champ under Roy Williams gets just six points (1 for 6 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 4 for 4) to go along with two rebounds, an assist and a turnover. In the end it was the home squad to win the game, as Los Angeles beats Atlanta by the final tally of 118 to 110. With the loss the Hawks are now 2 and 1 in the early, early part of the season. At the Peachtree Hoops their take on the game is fire Joe is overrated.
