As promised, it’s time to be in catch up mode, even though I am not promising that I will be caught up with this (not so) daily post of mine that I call “Heels in the League” (NBA). This post is about the games played on October 31, 2009, where the National Basketball Association has seven games on its slate. Of those games three have ex Tar Heels in it, one with a touch of blue on both side of the court. I am hoping to get at least two more done after this one, so that I can be caught up with the “Heels in the League” (NBA) posts by the end of the weekend (since after that there is also the UNC basketball team to follow). But for now, sit back and enjoy this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for 10/31/09…
In the first game of the night it’s the New Jersey Nets going to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center. For the Wizs they have two ex North Carolina players on their roster, center Brendan Haywood and forward Antawn Jamison. While the latter is still out for a couple of weeks due to a pre-season injury, the former did get on the court. Haywood, who played 29 minutes in the game, scored 10 points (4 for 10 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 3), to go along with seven rebounds and a block. The ex UNC player also had two turnovers in the game. When it was all said and done Washington took this one by double digits, outscoring New Jersey by the final of 123 to 104. With the victory the Wizards are now 2 and 1 on the season. Truth About It (TrueHoop Network) entitles their recap Arenas’ Efficiency and Blatche’s Consistency: Wizards Scorch Nets 123-104, while Bullets Forever (SB Nation) talks about the new secret weapon lineup.
The next game, which has ex UNC players on each side of the court, it’s the Charlotte Bobcats going to the Q and taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers in front of 20,562 fans. For the home team it is the tandem of Danny Green and Jawad Williams. While Green doesn’t even dress for the game, the other ex Heel, Williams gets a couple of minutes of playing time and does not do anything (at least from what the box score shows). On the other side, for the Bobcats it’s ex national champion Raymond Felton, who starts at the point guard slot in this one, playing 34 minutes in which he scores 10 points (5 for 12 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0), to go along with three assists and a steal. The speedster from Chapel Hill also had a whooping eight turnovers in this game. In the end it’s Cleveland beating Charlotte by the final of 90 to 79. With the win the Cavs go back up to .500 (2 and 2) while Charlotte slips to below .500 (1 and 2). Rufus on Fire (SB Nation) gives us the Bobcats’ version, while Cavs: the Blog (TrueHoop Network) says Cavs 90, Bobcats 79 (Or, Delonte’s Back and there’s gonna be trouble.)
The last game of the night, played at the AT&T Center in front of 16,966 fans, it’s the Sacramento Kings taking on the San Antonio Spurs. For the visiting squad it’s Sean May giving them a touch of carolina blue. The ex national champ power forward gets 16 minutes from the starting spot, scoring four points (2 for 4 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go along with two rebounds, an assist and a turnover. As far as the game went, it was San Antonio winning this one going away, defeating Sacramento by 19, with the final tally being 113 to 94. With the loss the Kings find themselves at 0 and 3 in the young season. At Cowbell Kingdom, a blog from the TrueHoop Network, there is a lengthy recap of the game to go along with a Player analysis
