Way, way late (and without much of an excuse for it besides what I have already talked about a while back) let’s back into a rhythm with the daily post (which has not been so daily) “Heels in the League” (NBA). This is part two of the games from October 28, 2009, while later tonight I will have another post for 10/29 and tomorrow I am going to (hopefully) catch up with this post. For now all I can do is apologize for the delay and hope to get this back on track right away, since I don’t want to have a problem with this daily post. Now, without further ado, here is the second part of the recap from October 28, 2009…
The first game for this recap with a touch of carolina blue is the one between the New Jersey Nets and the Minnesota Timberwolves, played at Target Center in front of 18,358 fans. While the Nets used to have an ex Heel last year (Vince Carter), this season it’s the TWolves that now sport an ex player from Chapel Hill, rookie shooting guard Wayne Ellington. In this game the ex Heel and national champion, had 23 minutes of action coming off the bench, where he scored eight points (4 for 8 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with six rebounds and two assists. In a very tight game between these two teams it’s the home team taking it, as Minnesota beats New Jersey by the final of 95 to 93.
Next game is the one out west between the Sacramento Kings and the Oklahoma City Thunder, played at the Ford Center in front of 18,203 fans. For the visiting team it’s forward Sean May to have a touch of carolina blue. The ex Heel and national champions is in his first year with the Kings, after having played for the Bobcats the first years of his career. May, who starts at the power forward slot, scores six points (2 for 4 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 2 for 2) plus an assist, a block and a steal in 18 minutes of playing time. In the end it was Oklahoma City winning this one easily, beating Sacramento 102 to 89.
The third (of 4) games in this recap is the game between the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets. A game that was played in front of 19,155 fans at the Pepsi Center. This would also be the first game for ex Heel point guard Ty Lawson, who is now on the Nuggets’ roster. In his fist NBA appearance the speedster had 17 points (7 for 13 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 3 for 3) to go along with six assists, four rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes of playing time. And not only did the ex UNC player have a great start but so did his team, as Denver defeated Utah by the final tally of 114 to 105.
The last game of the night with a touch of carolina blue is the one involving the Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors, played at the ORACLE Arena in front of 19,596. For the home squad it’s power forward Brandon Wright giving them a touch of Heels on the roster. However in the first game of the season the ex Carolina “one and done” didn’t see the floor for his squad. In a tight game, which was one by one point, it was Houston taking the game, barely beating Golden State 108 to 107.
