Well, Tuesday the National Basketball Association 09-10 season began and, yes, I am already late with my first post about the “Heels in the League” (NBA). For those of you that do not know my wife has been in the hospital of late (check this url for more news on her) and so the blogging has not been regular (actually to be honest blogging has almost stopped of late). However it was her that told me to let her rest and do a couple of post while she sleeps. So, here I am doing just that, while looking at the games from October 27, 2009 for the ex UNC players. In all there were four games, two had no ex Heels, one had one and one game had three (two on one side and one on the other). Without further ado, let’s check this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA)…
The first game of the night, between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers, played at Quicken Loans Arena, or as my friend C (Carolyn) of the And One blog would call it: The Q. In the first game of the year and the first with LBJ/Shaq together there were 20,562 fans at the game. For the home team, who has two ex Tar Heels, forward Jawad Williams and g/f combo Danny Green, there isn’t much to say as neither got to see the floor on this night. On the other side, it is f/c Rasheed Wallace, who got 24 minutes in all (most of any sub for the Celtics), and used them well. The ex Heel got 12 points (4 for 9 ~ 3 for 6 from beyond the arc ~ 1 for 2 FTs), to go along with three rebounds and two blocks. When it was all said and done it was Boston beating Cleveland by the final of 95 to 89. Jeff Sack of Slam Dunk Central talk about the game in his post, while Brian Robb of CelticsHub (TrueHoopNetwork) entitles his piece Cavs Can’t Handle The Truth: C’s 95, Cavs 89. On the other side, at Fear the Sword (of SBNation), the blog is simply: Basketball is Back!!! Cavaliers lose to Celtics 95-89.

The other game of the night that has a touch of carolina blue is the one between the Washington Wizards and the Dallas Mavericks, played in the American Airlines Center in front of 19,871 fans. For the Mavs no ex Heels are on the roster (they used to have Jerry Stackhouse last year, who is now a free agent). For the Wizs there are two ex players from Chapel Hill. The first one is center Brendan Haywood, who started (getting 38 minutes in all), scoring seven points (3 for 10 ~ 1 for 2 FTs) to go along with 10 rebounds. The other one is Antawn Jamison, who is out right now due to a preseason injury. In the end it was Washington winning this one, defeating Dallas by double digits, with the final tally being 102 to 91. Truth About It (TrueHoop Network) talks about the game in this post, while for the Dallas perspective, it’s Mavs Moneyball and their piece of the game.
