Moving right along to catch up with this (not so) daily post of mine called “Heels in the League” (NBA) here is the recap for the games from Saturday, March 3, 2010. In all there were nine games, seven of them had a touch of Carolina Blue, but none of them were head to head match ups. First game of the night has the Atlanta Hawks (EC 2nd SE) playing host to the Detroit Pistons (EC 5th Central), in a game that is the third (of four) in their series, with each team having won one this season. The game was played at the Philips Arena in front of a crowd of 18,729. For the home town team it’s small forward Marvin Williams (75 Games: 30.5 MinsPG ~ 10.0 PPG ~ 5.2 RPG ~ 1.1 APG) starting for the Hawks and getting a total of 37 minutes. In that time frame the ex one & done and national champion scores seven points (3 for 6 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 1 for 1) to go with three rebounds, an assist, one steal, a block and three turnovers while +7 pts differential. In the end it was Atlanta winning this one, taking down Detroit by a hald dozen, with the final score being 91 to 85. With the W the Hawks are now 49-27 on the season (.644 winning percentage) and 32-7 at home (.820 winning percentage).

Moving on with the recap here is the game between the Charlotte Bobcats (EC 4th SE) and the Chicago Bulls (EC 3rd Central), played at the United Center in front of a crowd of 20,996. This was the third (of four) games between the two, with the series being tied up at one as of right now. For the visiting team from the Tar Heel state it’s speedster Raymond Felton (75 Games: 33.1 MinsPG ~ 12.1 PPG ~ 5.5 APG ~ 1.6 SPG) starting at the point guard positing and playing for 36 minutes. The `05 national champ scored 10 points (4 for 12 ~ 1 for 1 ~ 1 for 2) to go with five assists, two boards, a steal, a TO and a -9 pts differential. In the end it was Chicago winning this one over Charlotte, with the final being 96 to 88. With the loss the Bobcats slide down to 40-36 (.526 winning percentage) and 11-27 on the road (.289 winning percentage).

The third game of the night is an East/West match up as the Minnesota Timberwolves (WC 5th NW) play host to the Miami Heat (EC 3rd SE), in a game that was played in front of 17,601 fans at the Target Center. This is the second (of two) games between these teams, with Minnesota having won the first encounter. For the home squad we have shooting guard Wayne Ellington (72 Games: 18.2 MinsPG ~ 6.7 PPG ~ 1.0 APG ~ 2.1 RPG) playing seven minutes in all. In that short time off the bench the `09 national champ scores two points (1 for 2 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with a rebound and a pts differential of 0. In the end it was Miami taking this one, defeating Minnesota by a baker’s dozen, with the final being 97 to 84. With the loss the TWolves drop to 15-61 overall (.197 winning percentage) and 10-28 at home (.263 winning percentage).

Moving forward in this post the next game we have has the Dallas Mavericks (WC 1st SW) hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder (WC 3rd NW) in the fourth (of four) games between these teams, with the series being in favor of Dallas 2-1. The game was played at the American Airlines Center in front of a crowd that numbered 20,329. For the home town team we have ex UNC big man Brendan Haywood (72 Game: 31.2 MinsPG ~ 9.3 PPG ~ 9.5 RPG ~ 2.1 BPG) coming off the bench for the Mavs. The center scores nine points (3 for 3 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 3 for 4) to go with three rebounds (2 offensive), a block, three TOs and a pts differential of -19. As far as the game went it was Oklahoma City winning this one by five points, defeating Dallas by the final of 121 to 116. With the loss the Mavs drop to 50-27 on the season (.649 winning percentage) and 26-13 at home (.667 winning percentage).

The fifth game is the one that has the Milwaukee Bucks (EC 2nd Central) playing host to the Phoenix Suns (WC 2nd Pacific) in another East/West match up that was played at the Bradley Center in front of a crowd that numbered 16,436. This was the second (of two) games between these franchises, with Phoenix having won the first encounter. In this one, for the home town, it’s veteran Jerry Stackhouse (36 Games: 20.0 MinsPG ~ 8.0 PPG ~ 1.7 APG ~ 2.4 RPG), who as usual comes off the bench for the Bucks and plays for 18 minutes. In that time frame the shooting guard scores eight points (4 for 8 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with two rebounds, two assists and a turnover while having a -2 pts differential. As far as the game was concerned it was Milwaukee winning this one, taking down Phoenix by nine points, with the final score being 107 to 98. With the W the Bucks are now 42-34 on the season (.556 winning percentage) and 27-11 at home (.710 winning percentage).

The second to last game of the night is the match up between the host team Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Clippers, the rubber game of a three game series between the two squads. The game was played at the Pepsi Center in front of a crowd of 19,155. For the home town team it’s rookie point guard Ty Lawson (60 Games: 20.9 MinsPG ~ 8.6 PPG ~ 3.2 APG ~ 0.8 SPG) getting 28 minutes off the bench for the Nuggets. In that time frame the `09 national champ scored eight points (4 for 7 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 0 for 1) to go with four assists, three rebounds, a steal and a TO while having a +11 pts differential. In the end it was Denver winning the game (and the series), beating LA by 8 points, with the final score being 98 to 90. With the win the Nuggets are now 50-27 overall (.649 winning percentage) and 32-6 at home (.842 winning percentage).

And we close this out with the game between the Portland Trail Blazers (WC 4th NW) and the Sacramento Kings (WC 4th Pacific) in what is the fourth (of four) match ups between the teams, with the series being 3-0 for Portland. The game was played at the ARCO Arena in front of an attendance that numbered 12,875. For the home team we see ex UNC big man Sean May (33 Games: 9.2 MinsPG ~ 3.4 PPG ~ 2.0 RPG ~ 0.2 BPG) come off the bench and just play three minutes for the Kings. In that time the power forward does not score (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) and just as a pts differential of +1. In the end it was Portland making a clean sweep of the series by defeating Sacramento 98 to 87. With the loss the Kings slide to 24-53 on the year (.312 winning percentage) and 17-20 at home (.459 winning percentage).
