While Thursday was a very small recap when it came to the ex players now in the National Basketball Association, yesterday’s schedule for the NBA was huge, with eleven game, eight of them with a touch of Carolina Blue, three of those being head to head match ups. Meaning that out of 22 teams in action on Friday, March 26, 2010 half of them have ex UNC players on their rosters. As usual, if you are looking for the total recap for the night’s action you can get it on ESPN. But for now, without further ado, here is this “Heels in the League” (NBA) recap for the games from 03/26/10…
In the first game of the night it’s the Indiana Pacers (EC 4th Central) play host to the Utah Jazz (WC 2nd NW), played at Conseco Fieldhouse in front of 15,463 spectators. This was the second (of two) games between these squads, with Utah having won the first match up. For the home squad it would be power forward Tyler Hansbrough, but as we all know by now the lottery pick for the Pacers is out for the remainder of the season. As far as the game went it was Indiana taking it and evening up the series, defeating Utah by 16 points, with the final being 122 to 106. With the win the Pacers go to 27-46 overall (. winning percentage), 19-16 at home (.542 winning percentage) and are tenth in the East, 9.0 games behind the last playoff team.

In the second game of the recap we find an East/West and head to head match up as the Minnesota Timberwolves (WC 5th NW) head to the sunshine state to take on the Orlando Magic (EC 1st SE). The game, played in front of a crowd of 17,461, was the second (of two) between these teams, with Orlando having won the first one. For the visiting squad it’s rookie Wayne Ellington (68 Games: 18.4 MinsPG ~ 6.9 PPG ~ 1.0 APG ~ 2.2 RPG), who came off the bench for 13 minutes. The shooting guard and national champ from last season it was an eight points night (2 for 4 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 2 for 2) to go with three rebounds, two assists, a block and a TO while having a +2 pts differential. On the other side it’s veteran Vince Carter (66 Games: 31.5 MinsPG ~ 3.1 APG ~ 4.0 RPG), who starts for the Magic and gets a total of 40 minutes. The shooting guard scores 13 points (5 for 9 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 1 for 2) to go along with five assists, two rebounds and three turnovers while having a pts differential of +12. In the end it was Orlando winning the game and the series, beating Minnesota by nine points, with the final tally being 106 to 97. With the W the Magic go to 51-22 on the year (.699 winning percentage), 29-7 at home (.805 winning percentage) and are second in the East, 6.0 games behind the conference leader and 3.5 games ahead of the third squad.

As we move on we now see the game between the Atlanta Hawks (EC 2nd SE) and the Philadelphia 76′ers (EC 4th Atlantic), in a game played at the Wachovia Center in front of a total of 13,293 fans. This is the third (of three) games between these two squads, with Atlanta having won the first two. For the visiting squad we have forward Marvin Williams (71 Games: 30.3 MinsPG ~ 10.1 PPG ~ 5.2 RPG ~ 1.1 APG) starting for the Hawks and playing a total of 29 minutes. In that time the 2005 national champion scores six points (3 for 6 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 2) to go with four rebounds (2 offensive), two steals, one assist and three turnovers while having a -2 pts differential. The game was a bit of a shocker, or should have been, as Philadelphia defeated Atlanta by seven points, with the final score being 105 to 98.

The halfway mark of this post is the game where the Denver Nuggets (WC 1st NW) head north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors (EC 2nd Atlantic) in an East/West battle between teams that seem to be heading to the post season. The game, the second (of two) between these teams with Denver having won the first one, was played at Air Canada Centre in front of a crowd of 19,800. For the team from the Mile High City it’s speedster Ty Lawson (57 Games: 21.0 MinsPG ~ 8.7 PPG ~ 3.2 APG ~ 0.8 SPG), who comes off the bench for just three minutes. In those minutes the point guard didn’t score (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) and had a -7 pts differential. In what was as close as you can get type of win Denver took the game and the series, defeating Toronto by one, with the final score being 97 to 96. With the win the Nuggets are now 48-25 overall (.658 winning percentage), 18-19 on the road (.486 winning percentage) and are second in the West, 5.5 games behind the conference and 0.5 games ahead of the next team.

Moving on to the fifth game of the night we have a divisional battle when the Charlotte Bobcats (EC 4th SE) plays host to the Washington Wizards (EC 5th SE). The game, played at the Time Warner Cable Arena in front of 16,365 fans, is the fourth (of four) between these franchises, with Charlotte having won the first three encounters. For the home squad we have point guard Raymond Felton (71 Games: 33.0 MinsPG ~ 12.1 PPG ~ 5.5 APG ~ 1.6 SPG) starting for the Bobcats and playing a total of 29 minutes. In that time the `05 national champ has a double double, scoring 19 points (8 for 10 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 3 for 4) to go with 11 assists, two rebounds, two blocks, a steal and four TOs while having a team high +28 pts differential. As far as the game went it was Charlotte winning it and sweeping the series, taking down Washington by the final of 107 to 96. With the victory the Bobcats go to 38-34 on the year (.528 winning percentage), 27-8 at home (.771 winning percentage) and are seventh in the East, 0.5 games behind the sixth squad and 2.5 ahead of the last playoff squad.

The sixth game is both a head to head match up and an East/West battle as the Sacramento Kings (WC 4th Pacific) take on the Boston Celtics (EC 1st Atlantic) at the TD Garden in front of a crowd that numbered 18,624. This was the second (of two) match ups between these teams, with the first one going to Boston. On the other side of the benches it’s another ex big man, Rasheed Wallace (69 Games: 22.7 MinsPG ~ 9.0 PPG ~ 4.1 RPG ~ 0.9 BPG), who starts this one for the Celtics and gets 24 minutes. The center scores six points (2 for 6 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2) to go with three steals, three blocks, a rebound, an assist, a TO and a pts differential of +7. In the end it was Boston winning the game and sweeping the 2 game series, defeating Sacramento by eight points, with the final score being 94 to 86. With the W the Celtics are now 47-25 on the year (.653 winning percentage), 23-12 at home (.657 winning percentage) and are third in the East, 3.5 games behind the second team and 1.0 games ahead of the fourth squad. With the loss the Kings slide to 24-49 on the season (.329 winning percentage), 7-30 on the road (.189 winning percentage) and are 13th in the West, out of playoff contention for this season.

The second to last game of the night is one between to teams that are heading to the post season. It’s the Miami Heat (EC 3rd SE) heading to the Bradley Center to take on the Milwaukee Bucks (EC 2nd Central) in front of a crowd that numbered 17,841. This is fourth (of four) game between these franchises with Milwaukee having won the first three match ups. For the home town team it’s veteran guard Jerry Stackhouse (31 Games: 19.9 MinsPG ~ 8.0 1.7 APG ~ 2.2 RPG), who comes off the Bucks’ bench for a total of 15 minutes. In this one the shooting guard does not have a good night, scoring just four points (2 for 10 ~ 0 for 3 ~ 0 for 0) to go with an assist, a TO and a -11 pts differential. In this one it was Miami beating Milwaukee by 13, with the final score being 87 to 74. With the loss the Bucks drop to 39-32 on the season (.549 winning percentage), 24-11 at home (.685 winning percentage) and are fifth in the East, 6.5 games behind the fourth squad and just 1.0 games ahead of the next team.

And finally, with the eighth game of this recap, it’s an East/West battle when the Cleveland Cavaliers (EC 1st Central) heads to the lone star state to take on the San Antonio Spurs (WC 2nd SW). The game, played at the AT&T Center in front of a crowd of 18,581, was the second (of two), with the first game going to Cleveland. For the team from C-Town it’s a trio of Heels, with Antawn Jamison (58 Games: 37.2 MinsPG ~ 19.0 PPG ~ 8.6 RPG ~ 0.3 BPG) starting for the Cavs, Jawad Williams (45 Games: 13.3 MinsPG ~ 4.2 PPG ~ 1.5 RPG ~ 0.1 BPG) coming off the bench and Danny Green not even dressing in this one. Jamison, who played for 37 minutes came close to a double double with 24 points (9 for 20 ~ 3 for 6 ~ 3 for 7) to go with a team high nine rebounds (2 offensive), three steals, an assist and a +6 pts differential. Williams just played four minutes in this one, scoring no points (0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with a 0 pts differential. In the end it was San Antonio beating Cleveland by five points, with the final score being 102 to 97. With the loss 57-16 overall (.780 winning percentage), 26-12 on the road (.682 winning percentage) and are first in the East, 6.0 ahead of the rest of the conference.
