(NBA) 03/23/10

Not a very big night in the National Basketball Association with just four games on the schedule. However all of them had a touch of Carolina Blue in them. Meaning that this edition “Heels in the League” (NBA), covering the games from Tuesday, March 23, 2010, will still pretty packed. As usual, if you are interested in the more NBA focus run down of the games you can check out either Real GM‘s recap for 03/23 or the World Leader in Sport’s Scoreboard Page for the night’s action. But for now let’s get going with this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 03/23/10…

The first game we are going to check out is a divisional match up as the Charlotte Bobcats (EC 4th SE) going to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards (EC 5th SE). The game, which was played at the Verizon Center in front of a crowd of 12,742, is the third (of four) between the teams, with the first two having been won by Charlotte. For the visiting team it’s speedster Raymond Felton (69 Games: 33.1 MinsPG ~ 12.0 PPG ~ 5.4 APG ~ 1.6 SPG) who starts for the Bobcats and gets 39 minutes. For the national champ from `05 it’s a 13 points performance (6 for 13 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 1 for 2) to go with five assists, four rebounds (2 offensive), two steals and a TO while having a +5 pts differential. In the end this game went to Charlotte, who defeated Washington by nine points, with the final score being 95 to 86. With the W the Bobcats go to 36-34 on the year (.514 winning percentage), 11-26 on the road (.297 winning percentage) and are seventh in the East, 0.5 games behind the sixth team, 0.5 games ahead of the last playoff team in and 3.0 games ahead of the first team out of the playoffs.

Moving on to the second game of the night it’s another divisional match up of two teams not heading to the post season as the Indiana Pacers (EC 4th Central) head to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Pistons (EC 5th Central). The game, played in front of 17,109 at The Palace of Auburn Hills, is the fourth (of four) with Indiana having won all games so far. For the visiting team we should be seeing rookie lottery pick Tyler Hansbrough, but as we all know, due to one or more health problems, the power forward will not be back for the rest of the season. With the W the Pacers go to 25-46 overall (.352 winning percentage), 8-30 on the road (.210 winning percentage) and are in 11th place in the East, 11.0 games out of the playoff race.

The third game of this recap is an East/West match up that has the Denver Nuggets (WC 1st NW) heading to the mecca of basketball to take on the New York Knicks (EC 3rd Atlantic). This game was the second (of two) between these franchises, with Denver having won the first one and it was played at MSG with an attendance of 19,763. For the visiting team from Mile High City it should be rookie Ty Lawson, however the point guard is still not being played (DNP – Coach’s Decision) and it’s probably related to the injury he substained close to a month ago. In a pretty high scoring affair, it was New York winning this one, splitting the series with Denver, who was beaten by the final of 109 to 104. With the loss the Nuggets slip to 47-24 on the season (.662 winning percentage), 17-18 on the road (.485 winning percentage) and are tied for second in the West, 5.5 games behind the conference leader and 1.0 games ahead of the next squad.

Finally, we close this up with the game that has the Dallas Mavericks (WC 1st SW) playing host to the Los Angeles Clippers (WC 3rd Pacific) in a game that was played at the American Airlines Center in front of 19,705 spectators. This is the second (of three) games with Dallas having won the first one. For the home town team it’s ex UNC big man Brendan Haywood (66 Games: 31.7 MinsPG ~ 9.5 PPG ~ 9.8 RPG ~ 2.1 BPG), who comes off the for the Mavs and plays a total of 30 minutes. The center had a double double in this one, scoring 12 points (4 for 5 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 4 for 5) to go with 10 rebounds (4 on the offensive side), four blocks, one assist, a steal and a TO, while having a team high +24 pts differential. In the end Dallas won the game by 10 points, beating Los Angeles by the final score of 106 to 96.
