Once again coming up late with my recap from yesterday here is the latest edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the game from Friday, March 19, 2010. In all there were eleven games on the National Basketball Association’s schedule, seven of them had a touch of Carolina Blue, two of them were head to head match ups. As usual, if you are looking for the whole run down for the games from 03/19/10 you can check out the ESPN‘s Scoreboard Page. But for now let’s stick with the Carolina part of the NBA and let’s get going with this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 03/19/10…

First game of the night has the Indiana Pacers (EC 4th Central) playing host to the Detroit Pistons (EC 5th Central) in what is a divisional match up of two squads that won’t be going to the post season this season. The game, played at Conseco Fieldhouse in front of 13,583 fans, is the third (of four) match ups between teams, with Indiana being ahead 2-0 so far. In this game we should be seeing power forward Tyler Hansbrough, but as we all know the lottery pick is still out due to his inner ear infection. As far as the game went it was Indiana winning it (and the series), taking down Detroit by four points, with the final being 106 to 102. With the victory the Pacers are now 23-46 (.333 winning percentage), 16-16 at home (.500 winning percentage) and tied for 12th in the East, 11.0 games out of playoff contention.

Extra coverage:

Here is the last second shot that got the win for the Hawks:

In the third game of the night we find yet again another divisional battle as the Cleveland Cavaliers (EC 1st Central) head to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls (EC 3rd Central). The game, played at the United Center in front of a crowd that numbered 23,129, was the third (of four) games between these two squads, with the series being tied at one. For the visiting team we have a trio of Tar Heels, with Antawan Jamison (55 Games: 37.5 MinsPG ~ 19.3 PPG ~ 8.7 RPG ~ 0.3 BPG) starting for the Cavs and getting 27 minutes, Jawad Williams (43 Games: 13.5 MinsPG ~ 4.3 PPG ~ 1.5 RPG ~ 0.1 BPG) coming off the bench for 20 minutes and Danny Green, who does not dress for this one. For Jamison it’s a low scoring night, with just two points (1 for 4 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with nine rebounds, two assists, a steal, a block and a +8 pts differential. For Williams it’s a 10 points performance (4 for 8 ~ 1 for 4 ~ 1 for 2) to go along with four boards and a pts differential of -1. In the end it was Cleveland taking the lead in the series by winning this one by seven points, defeating Chicago by the final of 92 to 85. With the W the Cavs are now 55-15 (.786 winning percentage), 25-11 on the road (.694 winning percentage) and are in first place in the East, 6.0 games ahead of the field.

In the fourth game we move from divisional match ups to East/West ones as the Boston Celtics (EC 1st Atlantic) head to the lone star state to take on the Houston Rockets (WC 3rd SW) at the Toyota Center in front of 18,198 fans. This is the first (of two) games between these teams. For the visiting team from Bean Town it’s ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace (65 Games: 22.9 MinsPG ~ 9.4 PPG ~ 4.2 RPG ~ 0.8 BPG), who comes off the pine to get 19 minutes for the Celtics. In that time the center scored seven points (3 for 8 ~ 1 for 3 ~ 0 for 0) go to with nine rebounds, two blocks, one assist, one steal and a +16 pts differential. In the end it was Boston winning this one by seven, defeating Houston by the final of 94 to 87. With the W the Celtics are now 44-24 (.647 winning percentage), 23-12 on the road (.657 winning percentage) and are tied for third in the East, 10.0 games behind the conference leader and 6.5 ahead of the next squad.

The fifth game of this recap has the Golden State Warriors WC 5th Pacific) heading to the AT&T Center to take on the San Antonio Spurs (WC 2nd SW), in a game that had an attendance of 18,581. This is the third (of three games) between these franchises with San Antonio having won both games so far. For the visiting team we should be seeing forward Brandan Wright, but as we know by now (or should know), he is out with a shoulder injury and the prospect of him coming back this season is pretty slim. In this one, which was pretty lopsided, it was San Antonio winning it and sweeping the series, beating Golden State by 31 points, with the final tally being 147 to 116. With the loss the Warriors fall to 19-49 (.279 winning percentage), 4-29 on the road (.121 winning percentage) and are second to last in the West, 22.0 games behind the last playoff team.

In the second to last game of the night it’s both a head to head match up as well as a East/West clash as the Milwaukee Bucks (EC 2nd Central) head to the ARCO Arena to take on the Sacramento Kings (WC 4th Pacific), in a game that was played in front of 12,098. This is the second (of two) games between these teams with Sacramento having won the first match up. For the visiting team from back east it’s veteran guard Jerry Stackhouse (27 Games: 20.1 MinsPG ~ 8.1 PPG ~ 1.8 APG ~ 2.6 RPG), who comes off the bench and plays 16 minutes in this one for the Bucks. The shooting guard only scores two points in this one (1 for 6 ~ 0 for 3 ~ 0 for 0) to go with three rebounds, two assists and a 0 pts differential. On the other side, for the home town team, we should be seeing ex UNC big man Sean May coming off the bench for the Kings, but he does not play in this one (DNP – Coach’s Decision). In the end it took not one, but two OTs to decide this game, but it would be Milwaukee coming home with the win, defeating Sacramento by six, with the final being 114 to 108. With the W the Bucks are 37-30 on the season (.552 winning percentage), 14-21 on the road (.400 winning percentage) and are fifth in the East, 16.5 games behind the conference leader and 2.5 games ahead of the next team. With the loss the Kings drop to 23-46 on the year (.333 winning percentage) and 17-18 at home (.485 winning percentage) and are 13th in the West, 18.5 games out of the playoff chase.
