Heels in the League (NBA) 03/18/10
With March Madness, and if you follow college ball you can see that this year it truly seems pretty wild and crazy, I am not forgetting that there is always basketball at the next level going on, which means it’s once again time for another edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA). This post looks at the games from Thursday, March 18, 2010, where there were just two games on the night, both had a touch of Carolina Blue. It might have been a small schedule but one game did go into OT with a veteran Heel having a great production night. For the non UNC look of the game you can always visit ESPN’s Scoreboard Page, but for now here is this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 03/18/10…
The first game is a divisional match up between two teams from the sunshine state that are both headed to the playoff, that have nicnames that do not end with an “s”, and if that is not a mouthful I don’t know what is. The Orlando Magic (EC 1st SE), second team to capture a spot in the playoffs, and the Miami Heat (EC 4th SE) are going at it for the fourth time (of four), with Orlando having a 2-1 advantage in the series. The game was played at the AmericanAirlines Arena in front of a crowd that numbered 18,874. For the visiting squad it’s veteran guard Vince Carter (63 Games: 31.2 MinsPG ~ 16.9 PPG ~ 3.0 APG ~ 4.1 RPG), who starts for the Magic and plays a total of 46 minutes in all. The shooting guard had a team high 27 points (9 for 21 ~ 3 for 10 ~ 6 for 7) to go with six assists, three rebounds, a steal and a pair of turnovers while having a +1 pts differential. In a game that needed overtime to be decided it was Orlando taking this one by a half dozen, defeating Miami by the final score of 108 to 102. With the victory the Magic are now 49-21 (.700 winning percentage), 21-14 on the road (.600 winning percentage) and are second in the East, 5.5 games behind the conference leader and 4.5 games ahead of the next squads.

The second, and last, game of the nigh is the one that has the Denver Nuggets (WC 1st NW) playing host to the New Orleans Hornets (WC 5th SW) in what is the fourth (of four) games between franchises this year, with Denver leading the series 2-1. This game was played in front of an attendance of 19,155 at the Pepsi Center. For the home town team we should be seeing rookie Ty Lawson, but while he does dress he does not play (DNP – Coach’s Decision). The point guard is being kept out due to the injury from about two weeks ago. As far as the game went it was Denver winning this one by a baker’s dozen, beating New Orleans 93 to 80. With the win the Nuggets are now 47-22 (.681 winning percentage), 30-5 at home (. winning percentage) and are in third place in the West, 3.5 games behind the conference leader and 0.5 games ahead of the third place squad.
