Once again late it is once again time to check what is going on with the North Carolina players now in the National Basketball Association as I do my daily post named “Heels in the League” (NBA). In this one we check the games from Saturday, March 6, 2010, where there were nine games in all. Of those six had a touch of Carolina Blue in them, with two of them being head to head match ups, which means that a total of eight teams and 10 UNC players were in action. As usual, if you want to check out the full line up from 03/06 you can always go to the World Leader in Sports’ NBA Scores Page. But for now check out this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 03/06/10…

The first game of the night is an East/West one, as well as a head to head match up, with the Golden State Warriors (WC 5th Pacific) going cross country to play against the Charlotte Bobcats (EC 4th SE) in what is the second (of two) match ups between these clubs, with Charlotte having won the first one. The game is played at the Philips Arena in front of a sold out crowd that numbered 19,392 (max capacity: 19,000). For the team from the west coast we should be seeing forward Brandan Wright, but as we all know by now the one and done under head coach Roy Williams is still out with the shoulder problem. On the other side, for the home squad, we have speedster Raymond Felton (60 Games: 32.6 MinsPG ~ 11.8 PPG ~ 5.2 APG ~ 1.7 SPG), who started for the Bobcats and got a total of 33 minutes in all. In that time the point guard didn’t have the shooting night as scored nine points (4 for 14 ~ 1 for 5 ~ 0 for 0) to go with seven rebounds (2 offensive), six assists, two steals, a block and a pair of TOs while having a +5 pts differential. In the end Charlotte sweeps this small series, defeating Golden State by 11 in this one, with the final score being 101 to 90. With the win the Bobcats are 30-31 on the season (.492 winning percentage) and 22-8 at home (.733 winning percentage). With the loss the Golden State drop to 17-45 on the year (.274 winning percentage) and 4-27 on the road (.129 winning percentage).

This is the fourth match up (of four) between the franchises, the first three going 2 to 1 to Miami. For the visiting team we have small forward Marvin Williams (61 Games: 29.8 MinsPG ~ 10.2 PPG ~ 5.2 RPG ~ 1.0 APG), who starts for the Hawks and gets 25 minutes in this one. For the one and done and national champ from 2005 its a six points night (0 for 3 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 6 for 6) to go with four boards, a turnover and a pts differential of -12. In the end it was a pretty tight game that Miami won, defeating Atlanta by a half dozen points, with the final tally being 100 to 94. The third game of the recap is once again a conf vs conf match as the Dallas Mavericks (WC 1st SW) head to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls (EC 3rd Central). The game, which was played at the United Center in front of a sold out crowd of 21,737 (max capacity: 20,971), is the first (of two) games between these squads. For the team from the lone star state it should be ex UNC big man Brendan Haywood starting in the middle, but he is out for this game due to his back problem that began a game ago (DNP – Back Tightness). As far as the game is concerned it was a high scoring affair that Dallas won by a half dozen, beating Chicago by the final of 122 to 116. With the win the Mavs are now 43-21 on the year (.672 winning percentage) and 21-12 on the road (.636 winning percentage).

As we keep going forward in this recap we have the Minnesota Timberwolves (WC 5th NW) playing host to the Houston Rockets (WC 4th SW), in a game played at the Target Center in front of 15,587 spectators (max 20,500). This is the third meeting (of three) between these teams with the first two games both going to Houston. For the home team we should be seeing rookie Wayne Ellington, but the shooting guard didn’t even dress for this one as he has a problem with his ankle that began last Thursday. In the end Houston sweeped the series, defeating in this one Minnesota by the final score of 112 to 98. With the loss the TWolves are now 14-49 overall (.222 winning percentage) and 9-22 at home (.290 winning percentage).
