It is now time to check out what the ex Carolina players did in yesterday’s NBA games. There were nine games in the National Basketball Association for Monday, March 1, 2010. Of those, five had a touch of Carolina Blue in them, with one being a head to head match up. But now, sit back and relax as we do this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from 03/01/10…

The first game of the night is the Cleveland Cavaliers (EC 1st Central) hosting the New York Knicks (EC 4th Atlantic). This is the third time (out of 3) that these two teams will play one another, with the first two having gone to Cleveland. This game was played at the Quicken Loans Arena in front of a crowd of 20,562. For the home squad we have the trio of Heels all in action. With Antawn Jamison (47 Games: 38.2 MinsPG ~ 19.7 PPG ~ 8.7 RPG ~ 0.2 BPG) getting the start, while both Jawad Williams (35 Games: 12.1 MinsPG ~ 3.8 PPG ~ 1.3 RPG ~ 0.1 BPG) and Danny Green (14 Games: 5.5 MinsPG ~ 2.6 PPG ~ 0.2 APG ~ 0.7 RPG) getting some playing time coming off the bench for the Cavs. The ex NPOY got 30 minutes in this game getting a double double in it, scoring 17 points (8 for 14 ~ 1 for 5 ~ 0 for 1) to go with 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, a block and a pair of TOs, while having a +38 pts differential. For Williams it’s 12 minutes in all, where he scored seven points (3 for 6 ~ 1 for 2 ~ 0 for 0) to go with three assists, a rebound and a pts differential of -11. While for the returning Heel it’s nine minutes of playing time where he scores four points (2 for 4 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with a rebound and a TO while having a -18 pts differential. In the end this game went to Cleveland in a land slide, as the defeated New York by 31 points, with the final score being 124 to 93. With the win the Cavs are now 47-14 on the season (.770 winning percentage), 26-4 at home (.866 winning percentage) and are atop of the East by 6.0 games.

We now move on to the next game which has the Orlando Magic (EC 1st SE) heading to the city of brotherly love to take on the Philadelphia 76′ers (EC 3rd Atlantic). This game, which is the second (of 4) match ups, with the first one won by Orlando, was played in front of a crowd that numbered 15,817 at the Wachovia Center. For the visiting team from the sunshine state it’s shooting guard Vince Carter (54 Games: 30.7 MinsPG ~ 16.3 PPG ~ 2.9 APG ~ 4.2 RPG), who started for the Magic and played for 35 minutes in all. In that time frame the guard scores 19 points (7 for 13 ~ 3 for 4 ~ 2 for 2) to go with seven rebounds, four assists, a TO and a team high +22 pts differential. In the end, in another lopsided game, it was Orlando taking this one, defeating Philadelphia by 21 points, with the final tally being 126 to 105. With the victory the Magic are now 41-20 on the year (.672 winning percentage), 18-14 on the road (.562 winning percentage) and are in second place in the East, 6.0 games behind the conference leader and 2.0 games ahead of the 3rd place team.

In the third game of the night we find the one and only head to head match up with the Dallas Mavericks (WC 1st SW) and the Charlotte Bobcats (EC 4th SE) going at it. This is the second (of 2) match ups between these two teams from different conferences. The game was played at the Time Warner Cable Arena with an attendance that numbered 15,691. In the end it was Dallas winning this one by five, beating Charlotte by the final of 89 to 84. With the win the Mavs are 40-21 on the year (.656 winning percentage), 20-12 on the road (.625 winning percentage) and are holding the second spot in the West, 5.5 games behind the conference leader. With the loss the Bobcats slide down to 28-30 (.483 winning percentage), 20-8 at home (.714 winning percentage) and in ninth place in the East, 0.5 games out of the playoff.

In the second to last game of the night we have the Atlanta Hawks (EC 2nd SE) going up to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls (EC 2nd Central). This game, which was played in front of 19,011 at the United Center, was the fourth (of 4) times these teams have played, Atlanta having won the first 2 of 3 games. For the visiting squad it’s Marvin Williams (58 Games: 29.8 MinsPG ~ 10.1 PPG ~ 5.0 RPG ~ 1.1 APG), who starts for the Hawks and gets 32 minutes in this one. The ex national champion and one and done almost achieves a double double in this one, as he scores 18 points (7 for 14 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 4 for 4) to go with nine boards (2 on the offensive side), four assists and a steal while having a +16 pts differential. As far as the game was concerned it was Atlanta taking it, defeating Chicago by 24, with the final score being 116 to 92. With the victory the Hawks are 38-21 overall (.644 winning percentage), 15-14 on the road (.517 winning percentage) and are in third place in the East, 8.0 games behind the conference leader.

And we close out this night’s recap with the game between the Denver Nuggets (WC 1st NW) and the Phoenix Suns (WC 2nd Pacific), in what is the third (of four) matches between them, with the first two having been split. This game was played at the US Airways Center in front of an attendance that numbered 18,159. For the visiting team from the Mile High City it’s we should see rookie point guard Ty Lawson, but the national champ does not play in this one (DNP – Coach’s Decision). As far as the game went it was all Phoenix, as they took down Denver by the final score of 101 to 85. With the loss the Nuggets are now 39-21 overall (.650 winning percentage), 14-16 on the road (.466 winning percentage) and in third place in the West, 6.0 games behind the conference leader.
