Once again playing catch up on this daily post I call “Heels in the League” (NBA) here is the recap for the games from Sunday, February 28, 2010. There were eight games on the night, five of them had a touch of Carolina Blue, one of them a head to head match up. If you want to see the whole schedule for that night you can check it out at the World Leader in Sports. But for now, without further ado, here are the games from 02/28/10…

The first game of the night has the battle between two of the top teams in the West as the Denver Nuggets (WC 1st NW) heads to the West Coast (WC 1st Pacific) to take on the Los Angeles Lakers in what is the third (of four) games between these two top notch squads, with Denver having won the first two games of this series. This one was played in front of 18,997 at the STAPLES Arena. For the visiting team from the Mile High City it’s rookie Ty Lawson (55 Games: 21.6 MinsPG ~ 9.0 PPG ~ 3.3 APG ~ 0.8 SPG), who gets just six minutes in this one. In that time frame the speedster scores six points (1 for 3 ~ 0 for 1 ~ 4 for 4) to go with a pts differential of +2. As far as the game went it was Los Angeles taking this one, defeating Denver by six, with the final score being 95 to 89. With the loss the Nuggets are now 39-20 overall (.650 winning percentage) and 14-15 on the road (.482 winning percentage).

The second game of the night is the only head to head match up that puts up the Milwaukee Bucks (EC 3rf Central) and the Atlanta Hawks (EC 3nd SE). The game, which is the first (of three) between these squads, was played at the Philips Arena in front of a crowd that numbered 16,381. For the visiting team it’s veteran guard Jerry Stackhouse (20 Games: 20.7 MinsPG ~ 8.3 PPG ~ 1.8 APG ~ 2.8 RPG), who gets 28 minutes in this one for the Bucks. In this one the shooting guard had a good night with 20 points (7 for 14 ~ 0 for 2 ~ 6 for 6) to go with four rebounds, an assists, four TOs and +3 pts differential. On the other side, for the home squad from the east coast, it’s Marvin Williams (58 Games: 29.8 MinsPG ~ 10.1 PPG ~ 5.0 RPG ~ 1.1 APG), who starts for the Hawks and get 40 minutes in all. In this one the small forward scores seven points (3 for 5 ~ 1 for 1 ~ 0 for 0) to go with eight rebounds (3 offensive), two assists, a steal and a block, while having a pts differential of +1. In this one, which had to go into overtime in order to be decided, it was Atlanta taking it, defeating Milwaukee by four, with the final score beign 106 to 102. With the W the Hawks are now 37-21 on the year (.644 winning percentage) and 23-7 at home (.766 winning percentage). While the loss drops the Bucks to a 30-29 record for the season (.508 winning percentage and 12-20 on the road (.375 winning percentage).

The third game is a divisional game between two teams from the sunshine state as the Miami Heat (EC 3rd SE) and the Orlando Magic (EC 1st SE) meet up for the third time (out of 4), with the first two games having gone to Miami. This game was played at the Amway Arena in front of an attendance of 17,461. In this one, for the home squad, it’s Vince Carter (54 Games: 30.7 MinsPG ~ 16.3 PPG ~ 2.9 APG ~ 4.2 RPG), who starts for the Magic and gets 27 minutes in all. In this one the shooting guard got 17 points (7 for 10 ~ 2 for 4 ~ 1 for 1) to go with two boards, two steals, one assist, a TO and a pts differential of +4. In the end it was Orlando winning this one running away, beating Miami by 16 points, with the final tally being 96 to 80. With the win the Magic are now 40-20 (.667 winning percentage) and 23-6 at home (.793 winning percentage).

We keep moving forward as the next game is the Los Angeles Clippers (WC 3rd Pacific) taking on the Sacramento Kings (WC 4th Pacific), which is a divisional match up between two team that have faced one another twice (of 4) times, with LA having won the first game of this series. This one was played in front of 13,074 at the ARCO Arena. For the home team it’s ex UNC big man Sean May (21 Games: 9.2 MinsPG ~ 3.3 PPG ~ 2.0 RPG ~ 0.2 BPG), who gets seven minutes off the bench. For the `05 national champ it’s a just two points in this one (0 for 2 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2) to go with two rebounds, a block and a -2 pts differential. The game was won by Sacramento, defeating Los Angeles by five, with the final score being 97 to 92. With the W the Kings are now 20-39 overall (.339 winning percentage) and 15-14 at home (.517 winning percentage).

And we finish out this recap with another divisional match up as the Dallas Mavericks (WC 1st SW) plays host the New Orleans Hornets (WC 4th SW), for what is the third (of 4) games between the two franchises. The first two games have been split between the two. The game was played at the American Airlines Center in front of a crowd of 19,911. For the home squad it’s Brendan Haywood (58 Games: 33.1 MinsPG ~ 9.9 PPG ~ 10.3 RPG ~ 2.1 BPG), who starts for the Mavs and gets a total of 33 minutes. In the time frame the big man almost has a double double, scoring 12 points (4 for 6 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 4 for 5) to go with nine rebounds (five offensive), two blocks, two steals and a +8 pts differential. In a pretty high scoring affair it was Dallas winning this one, beating New Orleans by eight points, with the final score being 108 to 100. With the win the Mavs are 39-21 overall (.656 winning percentage) and 20-9 at home (.689 winning percentage).
