Here is the second part of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from yesterday, Friday, February 19, 2010. You can check the first part of this post right here. In this part we have four games to check out (in all there were nine games with a touch of Carolina Blue from last night’s slate of games), while reminding all of you that tonight’s action will be reviewed tomorrow morning and it consists of four games (one head to head). The first game of this part of the recap is the head to head match up between the Dallas Mavericks (WC 1st Southwest) and the Orlando Magic (EC 1st Southeast). The game was played in the Amway Arena in front of a crowd of 17,461. This is the first game between these two teams, and they will play once more during this season. In this one for the team from the lone star state it’s newly acquired big man Brendan Haywood (52 Games: 32.7 MinsPG ~ 9.8 PPG ~ 10.2 RPG ~ 2.1 BPG), who starts for the Mavs and gets 36 minutes in all. The center scores 15 points (6 for 10 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 3 for 4) to go with a team high nine rebounds, two blocks and an assist while having a team high +20 pts differential. On the other side for the home team, it’s shooting guard Vince Carter (49 Games: 30.7 MinsPG ~ 16.5 PPG ~ 2.9 APG ~ 4.3 RPG), who starts for the Magic and gets a total of 38 minutes. The veteran guard scores 16 points (7 for 15 ~ 2 for 5 ~ 0 for 0) to go with five assists, four rebounds, a steal and a pair of turnovers while having a pts differential of -1. In the end the game went to Dallas, as it beat Orlando by 10, with the final being 95 to 85. With the win the Mavs are now 34 and 21 for the season (.618 winning percentage), while having a 18 and 12 record on the road (.600 winning percentage) while being in fourth place in the West, 7.5 games behind the conference leader and 1.5 ahead of the fifth squad. With the loss the Magic drop to 37 and 19 on the year (.661 winning percentage), 21 and 6 at home (.777 winning percentage) in second place in the East, 6.0 games behind the conference leader.

We move on and now have the game between the Atlanta Hawks (EC 2nd Southwest) and the Phoenix Suns (WC 2nd Pacific), played at the US Airways Center in front of 18,266 spectators. This is the second (of two) games between these teams, with the first game going to Atlanta by one point at home. In this one for the Hawks it’s forward Marvin Williams (52 Games: 29.9 MinsPG ~ 10.2 PPG ~ 5.0 RPG ~ 1.0 APG), who starts and plays for 34 minutes in this one. The small forward scores just six points (2 for 5 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 2 for 2) to go with three assists, two rebounds, three TOs while having a team high +7 pts differential. This game went to Phoenix, as they defeated Atlanta by eight in a low scoring game that ended by the final of 88 to 80. With the loss the Hawks drop to 34 and 19 overall (.642 winning percentage), 13 and 13 on the road (.500 winning percentage) and are in fourth place in the East, 7.5 games from the leader and 4.5 ahead of the fifth squad.

The second to last game of the night is the one that has the Golden State Warriors (WC 5th Pacific) hosting the Utah Jazz (WC 2nd Northwest). This game is played in front of a crowd of 18,322 at the ORACLE Arena. It’s the first (of three) games that these two franchises will play against one another. For the home squad we should see Brandan Wright, but the forward is still not ready to come back from his shoulder injury. The game goes to Utah, who defeats Golden State by 11, with the final score being 100 to 89. With the loss the Warriors are now 15 and 39 on the season (.278 winning percentage), 11 and 16 at home (.407 winning percentage) and second to last in the West, 15.5 games out of the playoff chase.

And we finish up the 02/19/10 recap with the game between the Boston Celtics (EC 1st Atlantic) and the Portland Trail Blazers (WC 4th Northwest). This game was played at the Rose Garden with an attendance that numbered 20.618. It’s the second (of two) match up between the teams, with Boston winning the first one by three points. In this one, for the team from Bean Town, it’s ex UNC big man Rasheed Wallace (50 Games: 23.7 MinsPG ~ 10.0 PPG ~ 4.2 RPG ~ 0.9 BPG), who comes off the bench for the Celtics and plays for 23 minutes in all. In that time frame the center scores six points (3 for 7 ~ 0 for 3 ~ 0 for 0) to go with four assists, two rebounds, a steal while having a +6 pts differential. In what not much of a game, Boston won this one by 20 points, defeating Portland 96 to 76. With the win the Celtics are now 35 and 19 overall (.660 winning percentage), 20 and 9 on the road (.689 winning percentage) and are third in the East, 6.5 games behind the leader of the conference and just 0.5 games behind the 2nd squad.
