Heels in the League (NBA) 02/08/10
As I said in my last recap this “Heels in the League” (NBA) for the games from yesterday, Monday, February 8, 2010 is also going to be short and sweet. In all the National Basketball Association had three games, two of them with a touch of Carolina Blue, none of them with a head to head match up (making this the fifth recap in a row where there is one or less head to head game). If you are looking for a jam packed recap do not fear, tonight’s schedule has eleven games (8 with UNC players in them and again just one head to head match up). If you are looking for a general recap of all the games check out the Real GM’s recap. But for now enjoy this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) reviewing the games from 02/08/10…
The first game of the night is an East/West clash as the New Orleans Hornets (WC 5th Southwest) go to the sunshine state to take on the Orlando Magic (EC 1st Southeast). The game is played at the Amway Arena in front of a sold out crowd that numbered 17,461 (max capacity: 17,461). For the home squad it’s veteran shooting guard Vince Carter (45 Games: 30.6 MinsPG ~ 16.6 PPG ~ 2.8 APG ~ 4.4 RPG), who had the game of the year and close to the game of his career. The guard, who played 38 minutes, scored a game high 48 points (19 for 27 ~ 6 for 10 ~ 4 for 4) to go with seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of turnovers. Carter had a +19 pts differential (best for his team). In the end, mostly thanks to the game that the veteran had, it was Orlando winning this one, defeating New Orleans by six, with the final score being 123 to 117. With the W the Magic are now 35 and 17 overall (.673 winning percentage) and 20 and 5 at home (.800 winning percentage) placing themselves in second place in the East, 6 games out of 1st place. ESPN has Orlando 100% in the playoffs, 21% of making it to the finals and 10% of winning it all.

Second (and last) game of the night is the one between the Dallas Mavericks (WC 1st Southwest) and the Golden State Warriors (WC 5th Pacific) played in front of a crowd of 17,015 (max capacity: 19,596) at the ORACLE Center. For the home squad it would be Brandan Wright heading into this game, but as we all know he does not get on the court due to this shoulder injury that has kept him without playing the whole year. As far as the game was concerned it was Dallas taking it by ten points, defeating Golden State by the final tally of 127 to 117. With the loss the Warriors are now 13 and 37 on the year (.260 winning percentage) and 9 and 15 at home (.375 winning percentage) in second to last place in the West, 15.5 games away from the playoff race. The prediction in Bristol is that Golden State has a 13.7% of getting the first pick in this year’s draft.
