Another day, another daily recap that I call “Heels in the League” (NBA), about the North Carolina players now in the National Basketball Association. In this one we check the games from yesterday, Saturday, January 30, 2010, where there were six games in all. Of those, four had a touch of Carolina Blue, two of them were head to head match ups. A note, I am going to try something new in this post, and I hope you like it, by inserting the season averages of the players in the post. So, sit back, relax and enjoy this recap for the games from 01/30/10…
The first game of the night is one of the two head to head match ups, as well as being a divisional game between the top two squads, where we find the Atlanta Hawks (EC 2nd Southeast) going down I-95 to the sunshine state to take on the Orlando Magic (EC 1st Southeast). The game is played at the Amway Arena in front of a sold out crowd that numbered 17,641 (max capacity:17,519). For the team from Dogwood City it’s small forward Marvin Williams (29.9 MinsPG ~ 10.4 PPG ~ 5.0 RPG ~ 1.1 APG), who starts for the Hawks and gets 27 minutes in all. In that time the “one and done” at Chapel Hill scores seven points (3 for 9 ~ 1 for 3 ~ 0 for 0) to go with two rebounds, one steal and having a -3 pts differential. In the end, in what was not much of an even contest, it was Orlando winning this one, defeating Atlanta by 18, with the final score being 104 to 86. With the W the Magic are now 31 and 16 (.660 winning percentage), taking hold of the second place in the East, 5.5 back of the conference leader and 0.5 games ahead of the third place squad. The loss drops the Hawks to a record of 30 and 16 (.652 winning percentage), tied for third in the East, 6 games back of the top squad.
